Cell: I don't understand the ending.

Okay I just finished reading the book "Cell" and I thought it was awesome!
But I just don't understand the ending.
Well okay that is a lie.
I get the ending it's just that there is a part that I do not get.
Here (and I quote from the book)
it says:

December 30, 2004-October 17, 2005
Center Lovell, Maine

Can anyone explain that to me please?
It's driving me crazy.

It has nothing to do with the plot. They refer to the dates in which Steve wrote the book.
