I'm halfway through the book now and after reading everyones comments I can't wait to read the rest! I have to say that so far I am really impressed, especially with the way the story kicks in so quickly!!

Hi Char
I guess that I'm the logical person to respond to this, but to be honest, if I was introducing someone to Stephen King, then Apt Pupil would be a long way down my "recommended reading" list.
Not saying that there's anything intrinsically wrong with it, but it's just not one of my favourites. On the bright side, however, if you really like it, then there's a whole mountain of other SK stuff that you'll positively love. :cool2:

LOL @ aptpupil. Aptpupil was one of my favorite short stories when I had favorites. That story stuck with me for a long time. When others had faded from my memory that one was still clear. Not sure what it was, the sheer potential for evil I think.
Glad you are enjoying it!

I agree with Danivan. It's the one short story I go back to over and over.

It's been quite a few years since I read this story, but I do remember that I found it very intriguing.

Just adding my 2 cents! Liked the movie, loved the book! The book was much more interesting! I think the book got much deeper into both psyches.

The story left a long lasting impression on me, and I recently reread it and found it better than ever. The film I liked so so, I though the casting wasn't bad, but it lacked some of the power the book had, as usually happens in cases like these.

The story was awesome but do not waste your money on the movie, even though it was with Ian McKillan it stank, they did an awful job with it.

Absolutely loved the movie! I need to read the book. The book, as is the usual case, must be much better.

Very true. Great story; lousy movie. As an aside, the band "Anthrax" has a song which is about Apt Pupil.

The boy loses it and shoots his guidance counseler and heads to the highway with the rifle. It takes 5 hours to take him down.

I loved this movie! I sat down to watch it not knowing it was written by King. ( I thought I had read ALL of his works.. silly me) My husband had recorded it on the Dvr because he thought it was excellent and wanted to watch it again together. So, now I have got to get my hands on that book. I am compiling a list of must have books that I have missed and the list is growing daily. I have been a King fan forever and thought I hadn't missed much......oh how wrong. But it is going to be so much fun to remedy that!

Saw this movie a couple months for the first time, and enjoyed it very much.
(Tragic about what happened to the actor who played the lead role). (Brad Renfro).
Thanks,
John

Saw this movie Saturday, Oct. 10 and thought it was exceptional. The acting and the story were much better than expected. Since I have not read this yet, I was surprised about the subject matter, though it was perfectly logical.

I just found out it is a movie too - will have to check it out sometime.
I read the story when I was a teenager. While I found it "interesting", it really wasn't my cup of tea.

The movie's ending did not follow the book either.

The book does a much better job of developing the story. The book ends quite a bit different from the movie.

The book develops the relationship between these two over many, many years. They develop an interdependency which is well done in the book. The movie, no movie, could do this justice unless it was much, much longer.

I didn't like the Nouvella and the movie is a pale version of the book. It's shown on TV every now and again in the USA. If you are in the USA, you can go to Fancast.com, register and set it as a favorite and fancast will send you an email when it is on in your area.
That's how I caught this morning on local Fox channel.

Hi Char, If you like this story, you will love the Dark Tower series.
but this story has absolutely nothing to do with the Dark Tower. This story is realistic as opposed to supernatural. i just think that was a bad reference to another sk book. sorry to be a dick.
