View Full Version : Personal Genetic Body Modification

Okay. Say a new branch science has just come into existence and been perfected, away from the public eye, that splices genetics of humans. You could get your genes spliced, and your body would modify accordingly.
Ever wanted to be taller? Have a different color hair, or even, be of a different race?
There was an episode of a new Batman animated series that used this concept, only it used splicing in genes of animals to acquire the genetic traits of that animal, such as having cats eyes that reflected light and provided night vision, or even having claws or a tail from other specific animals spliced into your genes.
In the episode of Batman, the practice was quickly outlawed after it was realized, so everybody had to get theirs right after they heard about it if they were to get them before the process became illegal.
So if you could modify your personal genetics, but for a limited time only, would you, and which direction would you go?

I'd get my genetics spliced with DNA for a normal immune system. That would improve my quality of life so much.
Of course, I've always wanted to be a redhead...

too many flaws to mention really...but ultimately i guess i'm happy enough with the way i am. stemming the hereditary baldness which will eventually catch up with me would be tempting though

I'm with LadyPain. Please to give me my normal immune system back, thanks bunches. I wouldn't mind being a bit taller as well.

Well I personally wouldn't do this because messing with human genetics and all of this stuff is screwing with nature/god/whatever you believe.
But, if I could change one thing it would be thinner. I am not obese or fat or anything, about 215 pounds, but damn all those years of trying to keep my weight up for football took their toll. I can't seem to get below the 210 line no matter how hard I try.

Two extra fingers and webbed feet ala carte my good man, and make that to go if you please:smile2:!
I mean really, who couldn't use two extra fingers...I uhhh, just happen to dig webbed feet:blush:.

It's taken near on to 50 years to learn how to live in the skins I came with. I think I'd purely freak out with new stuff.
I can't say that what I've got now is the best, but I can say it's the best I got.
I'll count blessings and go from there.
Great question though.

Nobody wants three arms? Eyes in the back of their heads?
Well, I figure I could use tougher skin, for one. And to be really strong too... (like, punch a hole through a garbage truck without breaking a sweat type strong) I'd love some kind of bone shell on the outside, that was my skin. I'd have to make claws for the hands, with multiple spike points, so I could backhand a tree, and leave four deep scars into it.
I'd need horns, and let's make 'em aerodynamically protrude from my head, like a wolfs ears when he's running at full tilt. Enough so if someone tried to catch or grab me, I could swing or jar my head a bit, and sink that bone-shard on my scull deep into some part their body.
I'd want bone shard shins, designed as natural protection and attack weapons. So I slide to my elbows and knees as I was flying down the highway on rollerblades, to duck under a tractor trailer truck, then pop back up after, and not even feel worse for wear.
The knee and elbow shard plates would have to end with a blade-like protrusion too, so those could be jarred or swung to break something, too.
The blue in my eyes can be turned up, so they glow like a eerie ghost-lights just slightly when the light hits them right.
Of course, all of this wouldn't to do normal society stuff. I'd find an 'in' in a government program, that could take a mentally unstable killing machine, and drop it into the depths of the danger zone of some sort of special forces operation. I would disavow that I was ever even human if caught, much less worked for the 'Operation of Special Intelligence', to give terrorists something to really be afraid of.
Possibly wings too. Of the gargoyle variety... although, that might make me easier to grab or catch on something, so they'd have to be designed by the one who usually trains the geniuses... (just a genius wouldn't cut it)

I don't know about genetic altering, but the thought of a etch-a-sketch mounted in my chest and knobs instead of nipples is pretty appealing to me. If I ever became mute, I could still communicate easily enough. If the kids became bored, there would be something to do for them. I just wouldn't be crazy about jumping up and down to erase the board.

Hi,
My wife was asked this question on a live radio show once.
She replied that she would like an extra vertebrae and a prehensile tail.
Neither the interviewer or her mother understood, but I spilled my coffee!

I would like a prehensile tail. It would make life so much easier, it would be like having an extra hand but I could tuck it away when I don't need it! I could use it to pick stuff up off of the floor without bending over (not that bending over is hard to do, but with 4 kids I end up picking stuff up from the floor like a million times a day...) I could get all the groceries into the house in way fewer trips. And, and the playground, I get on the monkey bars and hang from it. It would be perfect!

Hmm, I'd want a normal spine for sure!! One that isn't fused and doesn't cause pain or freaky astral events or seizures when I hit the right (or hmm, wrong) nerve. I'd probably choose to have better genetics that don't include cancer, lupus or heart failure, too! But other than that, no one is perfect and I accept the way I am, freaky astral adventures and ghost magnet that I am, LOL!

 This cracked me up! Hey, all you have to do is go riding...that'll erase the board. Some galloping back and forth between those corn fields would do it! LOL!
OK, I'll bite. I've always wished I didn't have to use the bathroom. I mean, come on, think about how much time we waste "going!" And let's face it, we ladies don't have many options when we have to pee and we're out and about. At the beach? Well, you're either walking a mile to the nearest restroom (only to have to go again when you get back), or you're swimming no matter how cold the water is. :biggrin2:

oh yea, I also want to be able to breath under water. Just walk around on the ocean floor and look at stuff.

here's my stuff.
if i wanted to look just plain normal i would want it to where i don't sunburn real easily. i sunburn pretty bad to the point where i might be outside for about 40 minutes or more and my face will be red like i ran a few miles in 30 minutes.
i would also want resistance to change in teperature since i live in texas where one day it can be a cool 65 and the next day it'll be 110.
i'd also want 20/20 vision since it's a hassle sometimes to take them off just to read and use the computer.
also super strengh since i have trouble lifting the average weight for someone my age, weight, and height and would make work easier.
for stuff that's just cool looking:
Blue Hair, who doesn't want a different hair color?
Canine Ears, just because they look plain cool.
a tail, doesn't matter what kind whether repiltian or monkey, a tail just sounds cool.
Spikes down my back, they just look cool and can keep people from sneaking up on you.
maybe three fingers and two toes like the TMNT.
horns sound good too.
repitilian skin too since i think reptoids are cool and sometimes there are days where you just don't want to wear a thing.
a forked tounge like a snake sounds cool too.
claws too since you won't break your nails this way.
if i had to be a different species i would want to be something furry like a dog, cat, racoon, or fox. my second choice would be either a humanoid shark or a gator.
so if this stuff was for real i would jump in immediatly.

Jane Fonda had a line like that (in a movie I can't now recall) but I think Anne's is better. Her character was asked if she wanted to be a man or a woman and she said "Both"-- for the same reason as Anne.

Wait, can I have a do-over? I want:
1. Normally functioning immune system (as before mentioned).
2. Longer torso in proportion to my already long legs.
3. The ability to control my metabolism at will so that I can eat what I want but still be just fine if I get locked in a cave for a month.
4. Perfect vision.
5. Darker skin, no freckling (I forgot about the sunburn issue until SKfan2006 mentioned it).

Oh, mine is simple enough.
If I could splice with an animal, I'd want lemur eyes.
Heh.
And I'd like to splice with an animal that has extremely great balance because mine sucks to the point that I can barely stay upright while riding a bike.
And I would also like a tail. Probably a prehensile one. and maybe for different reasons than Anne...
Or it could be the same. :p
But honestly, the rest of me is pretty fine. I'm chubby, but that's okay because I'm also tall. It looks proportional. And I have a pretty decent face, all symmetrical and whatnot.
Lemur eyes are just cool, a tail would just be cool and better balance would keep me from hurting myself, so that's more than cool.

I wouldn't mind being taller after being called little girl recently at my age!

some more i thought of.
changing your tastes. pretty much if you want to eat more veggies but hate the taste change it to where you like them.
perfect skin. IE no acne, boils, blemishes, etc...
how about a second and/or third pair of arms? would come in handy.

This is an easy one for me - wings. But not any ole wings - I want to be able to fly like a hummingbird.
We have so many of these little guys in my yard right now. They can shoot straight up in the air, stop, and just hover and look around. This would be over-the-top cool.

how about resistance to minor pain like paper cuts. i've been getting paper cuts like crazy in the last couple weeks and even caught my finger on one of the plastic boxes we use. this was really painful since it was the area where the nail meets the skin.

I posted earlier in this thread that being genetically modified would freak me out, that's true, but the more I think about it, the more I think I'd like to have wings and be able to fly.
Lots of perks in that.

I just did a double-take.
I read the title of the thread as
"Personal Genital Body Modification".
I really need to get my mind out of the gutter.
