I recently "discovered" a short story by SK called The Tale of Gray Dick. It appeared in McSweeney's Treasury of Thrilling Tales edited by Michael Chabon. It's a Dark Tower story and I haven't seen it mentioned around here.

I have yet to embark on the epic journey to the Dark Tower, so don't want to read this yet until I'm sure of where in the canon it lies. Has anyone here read it? Is it safe to read on its own or should I read the other Dark Tower novels first.

Anyway, you can find a little taster of the story here (http://www.mcsweeneys.net/quarterly/tenteasers/sking.html).

It's actually an excerpt from Wolves of the Calla which was published before the full novel came out.

Thanks Ms. Mod. That's good to know. I shall avert my eyes, then, and wait until I've read Wolves of the Calla. So many books, so little time...
