Hi All,

Just treated myself to a sneaky peek to the rough synopsis of Under the Dome..What a really good idea - I can imagine the chaos which would ensue after such an event....Anyone else really looking forward to this one? :biggrin2:

Here's the sneaky peek in full (that is if you havent already read it in the news feed) please note i have added spoiler markers for those who don't even want a slight indication of the story - there are no real spoilers in this thread :cool2:
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when—or if—it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens—town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician’s assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing—even murder—to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.

Hi,

O Yes indeed!

There's a Social Group devoted to it, with a countdown LOL, and another one for the associated signings, all welcome.

Long days and pleasant nights.

I'm looking forward to it as well, though mostly because it is a new King novel of mammoth size. It's hard to determine how good the story will be based on the available synopsis. In my opinion, it is rather scant. It sounds like it has a lot of potential, but right now, it could go either way.

It is going to be fabulous....Robert McCammon had a town sealed off in his book ,Stinger,by a forcefield. Planes and animals exploded when crashing into it. This plot was about UFO's

Clifford D. Simak wrote a novel (called All Flesh is Grass) with a similar plot outline, back in 1965. Interestingly, the town in Simak's novel was called "Millville," as opposed to King's "Chester's Mill." That's enough of a coinkydink for me to be suspect that there's a connection between Mr. King's upcoming novel, and Mr. Simak's previous work. The connection might simply be that Mr. King recalls the previous Simak novel, and thought it would be cool to make the name of the town similar, as sort of an homage.

I'm most interested in this Dale Barbara character. I'm not aware of too many King protagonists having a military background (unless you count Roland of course), and I wonder how much "current events" will play in the social disintegration of the town. It's certainly got me curious. At least it's not about another writer! No offense to Mr. King, but unless they are being chased by a monster the day to day life of a professional writer doesn't seem all that exciting.
