Positive vibes and good thoughts are sent your way. So many are without jobs today. May an abundance of jobs fall to those in need.

I wish you the best in your hunt for employment. Something will turn up sooner or later, and when it does it may not be what you want, but you'll never know where it will take you.

Sadly, I know all too well how you feel. Things will hopefully turn around for both of us, and everyone else in this terrible situation, soon.

I'm so sorry to hear of your dilemma, Girl87. I just recently changed jobs myself. But please don't let it get you down. I mean this in the most positive way. Do whatever you can to find another job. Get several copies of your resume, if applicable, and distribute them. You can do it!

Consider me in.

There's no recession, just a DEPRESSION.

I've been thinking- what if we decided to not pay the politicians until the whole mess is fixed ?

I'm in the market too, so I know how it is. Just have to try to keep the old chin up. Given the economic climate and the fact that the idea of 'a job for life' ended 20-30 years ago, there's no shame attached anymore. Just a fact of life that, at some point in our working lives, most of us will be out of a job. Too many people having to compete with technology and progress. Where 10 people might once have been needed, one will now do and machines take up the slack.
It's why we need to re-think the way it is, 'cos eventually, 90% of the world's population will be perpetually redundant...and then what do they do? Can't all work for Govt, that's for sure.

In the meantime, keep paddling. :smile2:

I to am without a paying job. Seems to be little demand for individuals well-versed in 19th century European History, go figure. I hope you have a much more useful skill-set and will be on your way to gainful employment soon.

So much for that whole "I can always get a job flipping burgers or pumping gas" theory everybody used to have..

One of my biggest gripes these days is the stupid 75 question online psychomimetric tests you have to take just to apply for a job @ someplace like Kmart...All that, plus pissing in a cup, a criminal background check..for the glory of minimum wage and stocking shelves or folding clothes ??!!!??

I'm sorry, but I think we've gone off the rails a bit in the hiring practice here. and lord knows, being stoned would certainly make stocking shelves or folding jeans a heck of a lot more interesting.

Best of luck, Girl87; I've been there too and it's a scary feeling. Hang in there; things will turn your way.

If any of you are cat scan supervisors. I'm looking for a full time ct job. I have 18years of experience and I do heart ct scans(3500+). I am looking for a place that does not have too much infighting and appreciates a person who does his 40 hours of work while minding his own business.

Girl87,

I worked at the Stardust Hotel (a Boyd property) here in Las Vegas over an eighteen year period and got laid off three different times. The last was when the hotel closed for good in late 2006. I was then out of work for nearly a year. I lost everything I owned--my apartment, my book collection, my computer, my DVD collection, etc. A close friend allowed me to move in with her and rent a room. I've been working at the Orleans Hotel (another Boyd property) for the last twenty months and came close to being laid off again a few days ago. Instead, and I breathe a sigh of relief, all the hourly employees in my department had their work hours reduced to roughly 32 hours a week. That way we're able to keep our insurance and our heads hopefully above water.

The reason I'm telling this is that hard times come and go. You just have to find a way of surviving when you have little or no money coming in. I know that it's extremely difficult, especially when you have a family and children to worry about. You have to learn to follow your heart and instincts. It isn't always as easy to find a decent job as everyone makes out. Still, if you can hang in there, good times will eventually appear again. The one good thing about having my hours cut back is that I now have more time to write, so there is a positive to this for me. Sometimes the worse things in your life can lead to the best.
