I'm curious to hear what experiences people here have had with craigslist-- specifically what experiences they've had with the employment ads on craigslist. I'm working on a freelance article about the various pitfalls of job hunting there. Any help would be much appreciated!

Some of the jobs are great. My daughter got a job through Craig's List. But there are some terrible people using that site too. There are scams, some really well planned scams out there so just beware!

I applied for two jobs that I found on Craig's List. The one thing I hate is that you only know the information that's listed. That's just the same as anywhere though I guess and you won't know if the ad is through the employer or an agency.

Exactly. I want to prepare an article that will help people steer clear of the scams out there. After using Craigslist to look for a job for the past six weeks, I've seen just about every scam and misleading job ad there is. I would also like to highlight the successes, so I'd be interested to hear about your daughter's job.

CL is one of the wackiest joints on the web, and mainly I go there for the Rants & Raves...if you'd like to see what the resl nutbags around the country...hell the world, are being nuts over & about, ya gotta check it out:laugh:.
A strong stomach is advised!

Sometimes I get some pick-up work off of CL, anything from a catering gig, to moving an outhouse (a really nice Greco/Roman style two seater...yeah I know, pretty sweet huh:D?) across state lines:oh:.
You can also find great deals on stuff you can turn over for a buck or two...hundred.
That is if your industrious...or desperate enough...depending on your outlook on such matters concerning wheelin' & dealin' in used goods (and sometimes not so goods) of course...I myself, have no such compunctions:biggrin2:.

Pitfalls of job hunting are more like bear traps. State Unemployment Service procedures can cause more damage that you would think. Imagine creating rules requiring newly unemployed to submit job request and meet quotas to be able to draw a pitiful check. You could make more flipping burgers than collecting from the state. Over zealous job search activities can be so damaging to local job searches. Internet job searches are too convenient and really provide few real job leads.
Bear trap 1 - work from home. Watch for illegal activities, scams, and identity theft.:sad:
Bear trap 2 - put out too many job applications and you will create a history with companies you want to work with ... wonderful HR reps may filter you out with "have you ever applied here before". Yes = goodbye. :glare:
Bear trap 3 - companies collect resumes and use them to obtain government contracts all the while intending to outsource the project. :down:
Bear trap 4 - Just creating a profile will fill your email in box with spam.:eek2:
I would like to hear more about your Craiglist job search research! Currently I feel the only job search methog that really works is networking.

You and I are in the same boat. I've never even looked at craig's list. From what I'm told you can find virtually anything there, including serial killers.

I have never been there, but I have heard many court cases on The Peoples Court over Craig's list ads. I have steered clear of that site.:eek2::bat:

Never done any job hunting on CL. But we've sure scored some great free stuff - from a moped to 3 alpacas. FREE!!! :oh:

I recently found out, that when you prank call to make 'appointments' with exotic three hundred an hour massage girls on Craig's List, with four guys in a room on speaker phone, they usually only show a mild interest in setting the 'appointment' up. Most hang up right away. Although, if you say you'll pay double, per guy, for all four guys at once... when a woman usually charges $300 an hour per one guy... well, let's just say she stays on the line. Her pimp will usually at that point start thinking of all the crack he's gonna be slangin' after his girl makes the deal, and hell! He'll even be calling you back personally as a follow up to your intended appointment.

Although, I must say, the rotating stripper party hosted by Britney that goes around this area every weekend or so, does sound like a fun enough time to check out. X0D

My husband has applied for many jobs (a hundred maybe+/-) and has not been hired by a company as of yet but has found several individuals that have needed work on their own home or business (skilled trades jobs). It has worked out pretty well since he has been unemployed since February and did not qualify for unemployment benefits.
