Just made a big score at an antique store here in town and bought 9 hardcover SK books for $25. I have recently decided to buy all SK books that I can in hardcover to make a nicer library.
I got on here and found out that all but 2 are First Edition copies. Any idea of how good a deal I got? What do these usually go for a piece on Ebay or something?
I am just so excited about my find, I couldnt care less about whether or not they were First Editions but the DH wanted me to look it up so I did. Now it just has me wondering....
Not that I would sell them....they are mine now!

We would probably need a list of what books you scored. Sounds like a great deal no matter what though.

I got several of my SK books for very good prices too. It took me about 10 years to collect them all, somewhere in there. All in hardcover and every book from Cujo to the present is a first edition.
I had mentioned this before in another thread but I have a picture of them in my profile if you want to check it out. The picture was taken at an angle, and although you can't see it, Carrie is hiding back there on the top shelf all the way to the left.

Definitely a good score! To get the value of them though, we would need a list of what you got.
I'm doing the same thing with getting hardcovers. I'm almost done.

Good find! i personally love paperbacks - have all of them in either new covers or the old Nel editions and no spines are bent :) although recently i have been looking for hardcovers..... just the postage prices are so high!!

The books that I got are: Carrie, Delores Claiborne, Needful Things, IT, Christine, Firestarter and Misery. The 2 that I got that I dont think are First Editions are Pet Semetary and Cell.

If you are excited and they enhance your collection, then they are good deal. Way to go.

If you landed a FE Carrie, you have DEFINITELY scored! They are going for well over $1,000.

If the Firestarter is truly a first edition first printing, in itself, in very good condition, it's worth about $50.

If they make you happy, they're valuable... but if you're thinking about the collector's market, and MONETARY value, don't forget that the books have to be complete with dust jacket.
We all float down here.

There is a PDF file on the main StephenKing.com site that lists how to tell first editions. If you have not yet done so, I would double check with that. Sometimes there are more than one first edition. For instance, I have a first edition of The Bachman Books, but it is a first Signet edition, not the true first NAl edition.
A great find for you any way you look at it, though. Congratulations.

They all have dust jackets and the only one not in near mint condition is Misery. Carrie wasnt a true FE but that's ok...I will just keep that one for my own collection. I bought 6 more today at the same antique store!! Havent been able to find any Bachman book ones yet though. Might help me pay for a trip to FL in the Fall!

I too became possessed at one point to have every SK in hardcover. At the time I didn't care if they were firsts or not, just wanted them all. Now after collecting them all, if I find a first that I don't have I will buy it if it is a bargain. I care more about the value to me than the monetary collector value.

A used bookstore I go to always has first editions of SK. I've gotten Rose Madder, The Regulators, Gerald's Game and Needful Things before.
Then when I went a few days ago, they had first editions of Salem's Lot and The Stand -- for $4 each!! I'm sure I could get a lot of money off those, but now that I have them I definitely can't bring myself to sell the books.

If you were able to get a true 1st of Salem's Lot and The Stand for that amount of money, you got a VERY GOOD deal.

If your in the south Chattanooga, Knoxville & Nashville have a used book store called McKay Used Books & CD'S. I don't know about Knoxville & Nashville, but the Chattanooga store always has a nice selection of King books. They are usuly between $2.00 & $5.00. I found an advance readers copy of Bag Of Bones for $3.50. A week earlier one sold on ebay for around $25.00. Be careful though I found what looked like Hearts In Atlantis once in great condition. Got it home & relised someone had put the HIA dust jacket on BOB.

I live in the country, so the last time we went into the Dallas MetroPlex I spied a Half Price book store. They had a good selection so i did some digging....found First Edition Salems Lot and The Shining. Cost me $14 for both. Very good condition...The Shining's cover had a couple small rips along the edges. But like someone mentioned above...treasures to me! That is what matters most.

I never saw the value of first editions. I mean - the words are the same, aren't they?
