Anyone think any other King works should be made into comics? If so, which?

I would love to see THE ROAD VIRUS HEADS NORTH made into a comic story. That would be nice.

Maybe something like cell, it would suit that sort of horror comic market.

Although I'm not sure they would come out good, I would like to see Marvel do all of the Dark Tower novels.

It. There would be plenty to keep an artist busy with that story.

I enjoyed reading The Stand comic series even though I've read the book twice. But still...why do they need to be made into movies or comics? They stand alone as the great books that they are.

Hi,

Well, maybe si, maybe no IMO.

Yes, they stand alone as great books, but they're seem to be a growing number of people who don't/won't/can't read books and I think the comics, like the movies, introduce Sai King's work to a much larger audience.

And I think the artists have brought a new interpretation, a new dimension, to storytelling and in fact I prefer what Marvel have done with The Gunslinger and The Stand to most film adaptations.

I thought his remark last year about considering the movie adaptations as 'dead skin sculptures' was priceless!

Of course, we all know what they're missing by not reading the books, but you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it think!

That story has already been graphically illustrated in Secretary of Dreams.

When I was around 8 or 9, I read the blurbs on the back of SK's books. They stirred my curiousity, yet I didn't have the maturity to grasp the adult language. It was through watching the movies that I developed an appreciation for his work. I read my first King book at 10 years old...The Shining. The part about room 217 scared the crap out of me. I was in my room, reading alone. I threw the book down and screamed.

I would be most interested in seeing IT made into comic form.

I think IT would be great as a comic. Maybe also Salem's Lot.

I agree that Cell would be a good fit in the graphic novel/comic genre. Good pick! Cell has really grown on me since a recent re-read and I now consider it a great classic "zombie" story. I'd love to see it come to life in a graphic novel.

I agree on Cell as well. It would make for a pretty good graphic experience without losing much (if anything).

I was also going to add "From a Buick 8" but reconsidered as I think it would not exactly translate well.

Definitely IT. Not only because it's my favorite, but the entire town of Derry and some of the more hallucinogenic sequences would be quite striking and visual. They could really go far out with this stuff.

Salem's lot would be a good one seeing that comics with vampire themes were a major influence on Stephen King when writing that novel.

I could also see Pet Sematary making a good comic book read.

The main reason is that there is money to be had by rehashing an old story and making it "fresh" again in comic form. There are plenty of King fans out there that will be interested and they know it will sell. I know I am. Yeah, I read the novel but I am interested in buying and reading it in this form as well. There are plenty that won't of course but there are plenty that will and they know it. I did not think the TV series was all that great but I still watched it. In fact a few times. If they made a theatrical release of it I would go buy a ticket and watch it. I might even buy the DVD later.

The same would go if they made other King books in this form. Plus it puts his books out there again in a different way. You may not read the comic or watch the movie but it will be in your face and has that presence on the shelves. Others who have never read his books could be interested. Bam. You get some more fans. His stories get another revenue stream going.

Pretty smart really.

I'd like to see Stephen create his own comic.

Great idea, I'd like that as well. Stephen could go all out with disturbing imagery and everything.

I've enjoyed the Marvel Dark Tower comics mainly because, after the first arc, they told NEW stories. I've been VERY disappointed in The Stand comics because there is nothing new there. I don't plan on getting The Talisman comics when they start in October. I want new material, not re-hashed stuff.

John: In interviews, Robin has promised that there will be behind-the-scenes untold stories added to The Talisman, as with The Dark Tower adaptations.

Well, I guess I'll have to see what's going to be involved. I told my comics shop guy that I would NOT be getting The Talisman, then, just before I left the store, I also told him that I reserved the right to change my mind! :wink2:

Here's an excerpt from my CD #63 column:

Though Furth plans to stick close to the original tale, she says she will expand on some stories that are only hinted at in the novel. As with the Dark Tower adaptation, there will be supplementary material included. Furth says, “Personally, I love extras! They fill out the picture and let readers know some of what goes on behind the scenes.”
