I'm currently reading Dark Tower 3: The Waste Lands, and just got to the point where Jake Chambers has been pulled back into Roland's universe. I had kind of tangential question. Is it answered anywhere what happened on Jake's side of things; that is, what happened to the Doorkeeper monster/Mansion creature, which had the demon from Roland's world stuck in its throat? It makes me wonder if the demon and the Doorkeeper then fought each other, if anyone won, the impact on Brooklyn/NYC. This had to have attracted a lot of attention in the Borough, as the actual Mansion began to collapse, and cracks appeared in the street.
Also, what exactly is the Doorkeeper? Is it a demon that took physical form by possessing The Mansion? Or is it a monster that might have been created by negative energy in the house?

Hi,
Welcome to the MB, and keep posting!
'The mansion's demon is the animating spirit of the house, a spirit of place, and parallels the demon which Susannah battles sexually in the Speaking Ring'.
(Robin Furth's Concordance)
Keep reading, but I'd advise you NOT to open any DT threads for fear of spoilers.
Long days and pleasant nights

So the mansion and the speaking ring are similar in both universes -- two places with demons as guardians, and both are doors to alternate universes. Didn't I read in one of the DT books that the demons can also be oracles, as with Roland's encounter at the way station and the speaking ring in DT 1, The Gunslinger? I couldn't imagine anyone trying to ask the demon in The Mansion for anything!
Also, I'm trying not to post spoilers, I'm mentioning briefly some plot devices.

I actually just read this part last night.
I personally believe that once the portal closed everything went back to normal in Jakes world. In my mind if anything had happened at all the house would have just collapsed, and the demon would have expired since it was outside it's environment.
But, what do I know I never even thought about you question after reading it. I was just happy they were gone and the journey could continue.

I'm reading this book for the first time too (I just started it) and I appreciate all the little explanations; otherwise, I may not understand some things! The DT books are not like King's other books; THOSE I get! lol

Almost seemed to me like, at the end of all that, that S.K. was giving a shout-out to Poltergeist in the house, and the demon inside it, collapsed in upon itself... pretty much sure I read that people at the hardware store nearby were watching something like that happen, basically. Maybe, because the two demons mirrored each other they wound up cancelling each other out, after much mutual chokage.
At least that's the way I interpret it.

The way i understood it was: both demons are the same entity, they are just in two differents worlds. if you could place all the worlds on top of each other, you'd see that the house and the circle of the oracle are at the same place. When Jake emerge into Roland world, Brooklyn may be devastated by that demon, but it is in another world. so you don't have to mind. anyway, the'res more than one Brooklyn. The universe is infinite.

I think there is a definint Poltergeist homage. But I think Jake's world was never effected. It's just like anyone who has a haunting. Most people don't believe them because they don't see it, although, the demon might be following the haunted person around. Jake's ka is to go to Roland's world. No one else is effected by this, so I feel that nothing outside the house is changed. No one knows anything is going on...

I think in this case though, the book mentions somebody from the hardware store across the street witnessing something happening to the house....

You will find out more on the demon of the Speaking Ring later in the series believe me.
