Hey!

I just got into sk and am hooked! I have read the following (In order of best to worst)

-Shining (Best)
-Misery
-Just after sunset
-Christine

I like the type of story that the shining has the feeling of isolation and horror, something along throes lines would be fantastic. I am not ready to commit to anything as big as the stand of a big series like DT. Under 800pgs is the limit. It is a bonus if the book is made in to film or T.V. as i love seeing the book come to life as a reward for finishing the novel.

Thanks, Mrbender.

Hi,

Sorry, I'm gonna exceed your 800 pages by suggesting either The Stand or IT.

And I think you'd like Duma Key and Lisey'Story.

Long days and pleasant nights

How about 'Salem's Lot? I always recommend people that one who "get into King and are hooked!" (that is, if they haven't read it already :biggrin2:)

Firstly, welcome to the forum.

Secondly, I would suggest The Dead Zone as your next SK novel.

Vastly different from The Shining, but in his own way the main character definitely has a feeling of isolation and horror, brought about by his unique "gift".

Definitely one of my favourites. :smile2:

If you limit yourself to 800 pages or less you are really going to miss out on so much!
I recommend IT, The Stand, Insomnia.:biggrin2:

Well, a feeling of isolation and horror would lead me to recommend Duma Key and Lisey's Story. I do have to agree that The Stand and It are well worth reading as well.

I agree...Duma Key and Lisey's Story are great suggestions. You HAVE to read The Stand and IT....must reads; also think about The Talisman or maybe even a fun "quick" read like Misery, Gerald's Game, or, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon (definitely under 800 pages!). :smile2:

Whatever book you choose to read next, I highly doubt you'll be disappointed in any way. Enjoy!

The Talisman and Cujo.

Lisey's Story may be a little too "out there" for a New Constant Reader.

A short story that scared the bejesus out of me and was also a film is Pet Sematry - film not nearly as good as the book but still okay to watch.

I would have to agree on Salems Lot.......if you really DONT feel like reading the Stand, which is the best ever!

Liseys story just didnt do it for me Im afraid, and is a little different in tone than his earlier works.

Desperation is another fabulous scary book. There is a TV series made in three parts of it - again not as good as the book but what is????

If you could face something thats not a true "horror" then the fantastic "Green Mile"...........read it then watch the film - both absolutely genius!
