So I'm reading 'IT' again, and I got to the part about the fire at the Black Spot....Dick Hollaran was there! Assuming others have noticed this, I'm wondering if it's the same Dick or just a slip on mr. King forgetting he'd used this name before. ?

No, it's not a slip up. It's the same Dick Hollaran from the Shining. Stephen King does have cameos of characters from other books a bit.

It's been some time since I read IT, but King does like to introduce characters from his other novels into various books. It's one of the things I really like about his work. It makes his fictitious world seem more realistic. Also, it's great fun when you spot one of these connections so it's worth paying close attention when reading one of his novels.

It's definitely one of my favorite connections as both books are among my King favorites. It's one of the many things that makes his universe vast and his mythology strong.

are you thinking maybe of jimmy cullem? the body floating there? face pecked? but there's that patrick guy, too. strange kid. and then there's that other kid, the one that stutters, like bill.

I know The Shining tie-in was intentional...but never got the idea that it was Tom from The Stand. Geographically in the SK universe, our "M-O-O-N Man"-never left his hometown till Nick befriended him...

okay, yeah, i remember that shark thing. in my pb version, bill is remembering that skateboard kid...on page 628 a page in, chapter called the apocalyptic rock fight, chap 13....first one of part 4....but i think he saw that kid earlier, reason why i say he is "remembering" don't have much time now, gotta go work in a bit... wasn't that bit about the shark, wasn't that early on? i'll look again later on. i don't think the shark is in my index, though. could be. but at least i know where to look. :y:

i looked again. i have notes and stuff. kinda scrambled and i couldn't find that other i told you about. then i got side-tracked by eddie cocoran. the creature from the black lagoon....did him. always sneaking up on ya and bango, there he is. i thought maybe it was eddie. but couldn't find the shark image. it's there, i know it is...almost comical. freaking shark. i think i would have remembered if tom from the stand was there. there's a cast from everywhere, it seems. i wonder if jimmy is related to john. maybe a nephew or someting? or is the same spelling. and tom's last name is kinda like that, that's why i wondered. heh heh...and way back...there's that guy that escapes by jumping in the outhouse...ha ha ha ha! he was the only one to live though, so i guess there's something to be said for doing what needs doing. some weird name...stugley grenier.....stugley! ha!

It's been about five years since I read It, but that sounds like a cool tie-in.
