You know, I think my sister had that on vinyl, way back in the day. I remember hearing it a lot when I lived at home... I'll have to ask her, that was a great version.

I am a middle school music teacher and read the earworm article while I was getting ready for school and was trying to think of something different to do with my class. When I read the article, I made a lesson plan out of it! I read the article to my classes, played the songs listed in the article, then had them write about their own personal earworms and what they do, if anything to get rid of them. With the eighth grade, I added "What purpose would an earworm serve?" We had a ball!!! By the way, a big one for us was , "1-800-SAFE-AUTO" I would love to share some of the responses I got!

"MsMod is Uncle Steve because they recognized to hate their personal #1 earwom "Tainted Love"."
Well, sorry, it's a repulsive metaphor, but I'm sure anyone else have seen that similitude...

At the moment and probably for the rest of the week I cannot listen to the radio as there is an advert for an album on it that contains my nemesis earworm on it! its in the Irish language and its a childrens song about a naughty goat.Once its in its there for the day and not even Iron Maiden full blast can knock it out !

My current earwig is that "mini sirloin burgers" ditty (sung by people who've clearly been inhaling helium) on the Jack in the Box commercials. Ugh. It's horrible. Make it stop.

I have "That's your horrorscope for today" by Wierd Al Yankovitch in my head right now. My sons think it is hilarious and have been playing it for all their friends...
Chorus: "That's your horrorscope for today, yeah yeah yeah yeahh, that's your horrorscope for today" (and repeat)

I thought this was going to be an article about some kind of parasite that infects the aural canal. Oh well. I pretty much hate all contemporary music, and consequently, take the necessary precautions to avoid ever hearing any. The last original, commercially produced music I liked were some of the "re-mixes," as they were termed, on disc 2 of Laibach's "Anthem" collection, from 2004, although I basically stopped listening to popular music around 1990. Although Rammstein's first two albums were really good. My grocery store used to constantly play a song by some person called "Avril Lavigne." I nearly filed a formal complaint.
I'm reminded of a re-run of "Family Guy" I saw recently, when "Brian," the dog, watched a VH1 special about Gwen Stefani: "I don't know what a 'holla back girl' is. I just know I want her dead."

Mr. King mentioned my suggestion of Escapa (the Pina Colada Song) by Rupert Holmes.
Ya have to admit, it's pretty vile and subject to taking up far too much brain space after it's been heard.
Still, even though the damn tune was stuck in my head at the mere mention of it - I was pretty jazzed at it's being used in the EW column.

I don't know if it's just me, but the article seemed as if King didn't write it. I mean no disrespect, it's just that I've come to revere his work, and this simply isn't his best.

nice to finally read an article. this is the thread w/the piece, isn't it? was at the beauty shop awhile back and kattie bought-a-cow had this cardboard box full of EW. had some time so i zipped through them all, to no avail. guess one comes out every 3 weeks? dunno what was up with those in the box--maybe the ones with sk's piece in them weren't part of the collection--i mentioned it to her and she played it dumb. :dunno:

I absolutely cannot STAND that credit report series of commercials. In order to get a credit report, you have to get into debt, unless you can afford to make payments on something necessary, like a house... Here's this kid talking about debt and then praising building up as much debt(credit) for himself as possible so he can have a good credit report.... It's bad enough that it's an earworm. Worse that it's an earworm extolling the virtues of a lifetime of owing lenders money.

Some earworms can also grow on you. It's annoying when you start out hating a song and then come to like it, because on some level you still hate it and also hate yourself for selling out.

I dont understand. So youre saying K Hjll didn't get an earworm song "Across Eleventh Street" or that I have incorrectly identified what songs I think are earworms or that song choruses are not in themselves earworms?

I have a song stuck in my head and an entire band... and its all Stephen King's fault...
I was watching Kingdom Hospital and the Scene with the runner and the van got me...
Red Dragon Tattoo, Has been stuck in my head for years... every time I have to show a sound example to my editing class, I always show that scene with the others... and every time, I spend the next 6mos humming Red Dragon Tatoo...
Darn you Stephen King... I hate to do it,,, but I must wish that you get "baby one more time" stuck in your head to make up for it...
