Out of every book and short story SK has written.. what would be considered a truly remarkable ending?

I havent read most of his books but from what I have read..

DUMA KEY - definitley had a satisfying ending, when Edgar is drawing and the hurricane suddenly approaches duma key, absolutley wonderful..

CHILDREN OF THE CORN - I love the way the story ended, I don't have the book with me, but the very last line in the book, mentions something about the corn being satisfied.. it gave me chills, I loved it..

GERALD'S GAME - I was flipping the pages so fast towards the end, when she's writing the letter to her friend Ruth explaining exactly who the man in the corner who visited her was, it completley mind-blowing, a mindgasm, truly a satisfying ending.

I agree with Gerald's Game, but I also liked the end of Mrs. Todd's Shortcut! It was a creepy story, but still managed to have a hopeful, almost happy ending!

First choice would have to be the Dark Tower. Awesome.

Next- Duma Key- as it should be.
Finally- Lisey's Story - satisfying.

At first, I was not so pleased with the DT ending. (I wanted answers, darn it!) But it did give me an excuse to do another re-read (like I needed one), and it grew on me. Now I don't think it could have ended any other way, though I do like to play out how it might have ended since he now has Arthur's horn.

Other than that, I enjoyed Insomnia's end, although I was sad that it had to end at all.

Absolutely loved it.:smile2:

The Dark Tower Series
Hearts in Atlantis (even though the first time I read it I thought that the woman at the end wasn't really Carol but was possessed by Carol. I reread it and had no idea why I thought that was the case.)

DT7 ends very karmically (?)

The whole premise of the series is about an open-ended omniverse with one singular crux.

And then there's our Constant (but disintegrating) Hero who might finally get it COMPLETELY right on his next trip.

Begin at the end, and start at the end of the last beginning.

Personal choice, but I like that sort of thing. I'm unsane.

'Carrie' wraps up well, with a little bit of "HUH?" at the end, although I couldn't get into the book until the whole bingbang stuff at the end.

Hi guys, well believe it or not one of my favourite endings is The Green Mile.
I found it extremely sad that John Coffey dies but at the same time it was a relief that he was free from a world which didn't understand him and could no longer cause him pain and suffering.

Hey QJ, it takes a little bit to get into it, but it is worth it, many Sai King readers have read this series and if you want to know what they are talking about in many posts it is a must.

The ending of The Shining and Dark Half are satisfying. Without the Deus ex Machina stuff at the end of Needful Things, I absolutely loved how he pulled all the intertwining plots together - definitely his most complex and clever book, with the devil never leaving the store until the very end, manipulating the entire town without lifting a finger. They really missed that important symbolic point in the movie version.

The girl who loved Tom Gordon comes to mind. End of Misery is great too. Specially cause in both books you just don't know if they survive it...you hope..but you can never be sure.

Carrie. I also liked the ending for Cell.

Hi!

I liked the ending of Cell, too. It left many wanting more but I liked the ambiguity of it. I love it when a novel leaves me thinking about several possible outcomes.

Cell might be one of his most underrated books IMHO.

I lol'd at that. Pet Semetary did have a great ending. From the books I read by King, I think that The Dead Zone had the best ending, though. You just can't beat it.

For me it would have to be Gerald's Game or Rose Madder. I love both of them and I hated to have them end, although they ended well.

For me it's Dark Tower. That ending was perfect to me! It's actually my favourite end to a book ever.

Mrs. Todd's Shortcut /my number one SK story with absolutely lovely ending that includes one of my fav SK quotes: "I sit on the bench in front of Bell's Market and think about Homer Buckland and about the beautiful girl who leaned over to open his door when he come down that path with the full red gasoline can in his right hand - she looked like a girl of no more than sixteen, a girl on her learner's permit, and her beauty was terrible, but I believe it would no longer kill the man it turned itself on; for a moment her eyes lit on me, I was not killed, although a part of me died at her feet." /

Everything's Eventual /another fav short story with a great ending/

The Road Virus Heads North - now that IS a creepy ending!!!:eek2:

Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption

DT

Dead Zone

IT

The Tommyknockers

Firestarter

Hmm,I think I could go one with every other book SK has ever written. His endings, whether joyful, creepy, sad or unsolved are usually perfect for the whole story. For me he is a master at that.:smile2:

without question; i just finished reading "Just After Sunset" and the most glorious ending (imo) was in his short story "The Gingerbread Girl." {To prove my point, take a minute and read the very first line then the last.} Classic. If his storeis ever make it into high school rooms, being taught by dusty old English lit spinsters, I would not be shocked if this is one they highlight.

Maybe the ending to "Popsy". I'm a sucker for the whole "victim becomes monster" thing.
And "Autopsy, Room Four".

I'm surprised so many people like the DT ending.

The body

The Green Mile

Cujo - brilliant but terribly sad - the film was a big letdown as it copped out.

Salems Lot

the Talisman

Oh my - I can think of dozens of others - it would be easier to say what endings I DIDNT like!:biggrin2:

Dark Tower. Without a doubt. First I screamed, then laughed for a half hour. It was the absolutely perfect ending to the cycle, and I admire the hell out of Sai King for having the guts to end it that way.

God, now I have to get that series out again...it's been almost a year...

I don't know what my favorite ending to one of his novels would be. Maybe the end of Pet Sematary. That was creepy. But my all-time favorite last line was from a story I thought would be incredibly dumb, but I wound up loving. From Night Shift the story, "Trucks." The last two lines are brilliant.

Two planes are leaving silver contrails etched across the darkening eastern horizon.

I wish I could believe there are people in them.

I really liked the ending of The Stand. The very fact that evil can be vanquished only to resurface in a slightly altered form is part of what makes SK novels so . . . how shall I say? So tantalizing. Of course, I like just about everything about The Stand. :wink2:

I've read all of Mr. King books - at least the 60 or so we can get in my country, and I loved plenty of his endings. And yet, pushed to the corner I have to admit that the ending that tickled me most and left me in chill was that of the short story "Secret Window", mainly because I was caught unprepared. I was so excited I had to immediately reread it and even today this story is close to me heart. The "children of the Corn" was also one of my personal favorites. I could really hear the corn hissing in mean delight.

I'd agree with "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" and "Misery" -- you know the ending is good when you realize you're crying when you close the book. Also, I strongly favor the ending of "Strawberry Spring":

I can hear my wife as I write this, in the next room, crying. She thinks I was with another woman last night.
And oh dear God, I think so too.

I would have to say the best ending is The Dark Tower Series. I loved this ending from the very first time I read it (I was never upset at all by it) This is the most fitting ending to this magnum opus of SK.
I also think the ending to Pet Semetery. The whole book freaks me out but the ending is the most freaky. The main character obviously did not learn his lesson!

The best sk book ending would have to be in my opinion the ending to the dark tower 3, the wastelands. When i fished that book at 01:45 in the morning i drove 45 minutes to a "books a million" the get the wizard and glass

Rose Madder - I was on the edge of my seat for that ending. The cliffhanger structure through out the book tortured me. I just had to find out what would happen. When he brought out the spider, my mind was already on overdrive. It jolted me, and disgusted me. I threw the book down, then picked it back up. Madder is one of King's unsung novels. To me it is one of his masterpieces.

Cell (to offer an opinion against the grain...). I love ambiguity in an ending. It's up to me to think of all the possible endings. And I have thought long and hard about the ending of this book. I spend more time thinking about the ending of Cell than I do many other more popular books.

Of course, DT has a classic ending that is perhaps the perfect cap to such an amazing series.

If this isnt one of the hardest questions to answer.

I want to say IT or the Stand which are my favorite King books but there is also a bit of sadness in the end of both of them.

Ive always loved the end of the Shining I guess.
