Read the book then watch the movie.....I find in his adaptations, the book tends to be a little better. Enjoy!

I say: always read the novel first!
It's much scarier when you don't know how things look and when you're up in the 'reading-world' and you don't know what is gonna happen...
Plus: you want to start with the original idea...the basis, don't you?

Hi,
Oh, the book by a mile IMO.
Not that the film is bad or anything, in fact it's got some neat scenes, but....
Do it in the order you suggest and I think you'll agree.

Hi, I own both as well. I am one of those types that simply must read the book first. If I see a movie first then sometimes I'm not quite so apt to read the book as the ending is already spoiled for me. In my humble opinion, while the movie was quite good, I prefer the book over it. I just like the fact that the books tend to be much more involved and you are able to get a better back story in the books I think. Either way though, I'm sure you will thoroughly enjoy both no matter which you decide upon first. Happy reading/watching!

I've only read the book. I thought it was okay.... from what I've heard the movie left out some plot points so if you want to get them then read the book.

IMHO always the book. The images you can create in your mind from Mr. King's words are 'way better' than any cinema.:biggrin2:

Being that the book was written (and released) before the movie, I'd read the book first. I always try to experience things in the right order. I feel that's the way the creators meant it to be.

The book was the inspiration for the film - so it makes sense to read the book first.
It always fascinates me to see how someone else interprets something. How someone else can create a set of visuals so different from your own based on the same source material (take the two film versions of The Shining for example).
That said, John Carpenter (Christine's director) could film paint dry and I would still pay to see it - the man is a legend!

i LOVE the film of 'christine' - i was just watching it the other day, it's fantastic, i love john carpenter - eerie, spooky, stark, but also dated enough to be quite funny (particularly in the first half). i want to know how they filmed the big climactic scene toward the end that probably blew their whole special effects budget though - it's wild!
i actually saw the film first, years ago, and that's what made me get the book (and it was the first SK book i ever read, actually, so i'm very attached to both film and book). i didn't think seeing the film first spoiled anything because the film cuts out half the plotline, so reading the book was like approaching something totally fresh and different anyway.

Definitely read the book first. They change a lot of stuff around for the movie that was better set in the book, in my opinion.

Read the book. Period. Forget that you bought a movie-copy. haha! Imagination is better than actually seeing it. true?

I watched the film for the first time the other day and i wasn't overly impressed. Not too bad compared to some adaptations but as always, the movie can't compare to the quality of the book.

The book is definitely better. They simplified it too much in the movie, so much they could have put in that really would have freaked people out.

As usually the case - the book is way better than the films. I find that the opposite is only very VERY seldom true.

The book is by far better than the movie, although the movie is okay. The book delves you straight into Arnie's, Dennis's and at times, Roland LeBay's minds and it's very important to know what they're thinking. The movie cannot do this.
Please read the book first!

Hi, Christine. By the looks of the date you started this thread, you've probably read both the book AND seen the movie. What was your final analysis?
I loved, loved, loved the book - much more detail than a movie could offer.

The book is much better. I had actually seen the movie first (years ago) and thought it was great until I read the book. It's much more detailed and I prefer the book ending and how LeBay was actually possessing the car instead of the car itself being evil Too many aspects were let out regarding Arnie's transformation and behavior. I love the book, I've read it a few times.
However, I still enjoy John Carpenter's version as well.

It's funny, I think I might be the only person here who kind of (and let me stress that again -- KIND OF) likes the movie better than the book. It's for one simple reason; I felt there were certain things in the book that were better before King explained them. The movie doesn't "cast light on the monster" so to speak, which to me made the monster that much more frightening. Now that being said, I love the book. I love the relationship between Arnie and Dennis and how well fleshed out it is. I love how it goes from a book written in first person to a book written in third person (and back again). That was really ballsy. I love the larger scope of the book as opposed to the condensed feel of the movie. But I also love that opening scene of the movie, with 'Bad to the Bone' playing and Christine coming off the assembly-line, already hell bent on stirring up trouble.

I haven't seen the movie in several years, but I finished the book for the first time last night. Can't say I remember much of the movie, but I guess what I'll be missing from it is the feeling that you take part in Arnie's and Dennis' lives for a short period of time. Lots of stuff in the book isn't important to the main plot, but it describes (as King usually do) the main character's every day life. That's what makes the book real for me. It doesn't just tell a story; it shows us the life of people. And when the climax finally comes, it's all the more powerful just because of that. No movie can do that unless it's a TV series or 10 hours long.

Read the book first or you'll see the actors when you read the book.
