I want to hear about other people's Stephen King collections. How many do you have? Do you display them or protect them? Where have you acquired them? Anything.
I have 38 mostly hardcover books, right now they are kind of helter skelter on a book case in my room, I've collected them over the years, not so much to collect them but because I could never bear to part with them. I've also bought them second hand and even have some well used library castaways. My Dark Tower Series whatever I could lay my hands on but I have them all.

I have quite alot of SK, don't know exactly as most of my books are still packed away waiting for shelves to go up ;p
But on my desk here by my computer I have the whole DT series which I got for my Birthday last year, The Talisman, Insomnia, Cujo, Dolores Claiborne and Dreamcatcher.
Now I have finished the DT books I am contemplating which one to go for next.

They are on a long table/bookcase display as soon as you come in the front door of my house!
I pick them up anywhere I can find them.

Hi
I have 47 King Novels (inc Bachman copies and the Straub collaborations). They are all on bookshelves in my front room along with a lot of other books. They come in a mixture of Hard back and paperback and the majority were bought new.
I think the only ones I have missing are DT 1,2,3 (lent them out and never seen since- that won't happen again) , a copy of The GreenMile, and On Writing.

I've been collecting SK books since I got hooked around 36 years. Don't know how many (recently moved and still some in boxes) but I do have a signed hard cover of IT that I picked up in a used bookstore for 50 cents!

I have never counted mine, that would be interesting.
Nothing in my house gets protected, really, we're all pretty hard on stuff. I'm one of the worst! I tend to read the books I like until the covers fall off and the binding cracks in half and I've lost pages.

I've read a lot of King books, but my collection is kind of small right now. I've got about seven hard covers (Insomnia, Just After Sunset, The Tommyknockers, Wolves of the Calla, Dolores Claiborne, Needful Things, Duma Key) and all but the Tommyknockers is a first edition. I also have the first four Dark Tower books in Plume Paperback editions. These eleven are on the same shelf of a six foot bookstand that also contains my collection of leather bound classics and ancient religious texts.
I also have several paperbacks, but they are situated on a smaller, three-foot shelf that is nestled between my two other book cases.
I have a lot of book space to fill up.

I have an entire bookcase full of Stephen King books! I have all the hardbacks that SK wrote. A lot of them are first editions. Some of them are from Double Day book club. I have all the paperbacks on another bookcase and some of the paperbacks are stuffed in boxes.
I have books from Donald M. Grant publishing and Cemetery Dance.
I also collect all of the Dark Tower Comics and The Stand Comics.

I didn't realize that getting hard covers were difficult, lucky for me i always choose to buy the hard covers. Only got 4 paperbacks, and they are different seasons, and Bachman stories, something else, my memory fails me at the moment. I had It in paper back and found it in Hardcover in mint condition for 2 bucks what a find.

my s.k book collection is only about 4 books at the moment. as with the rest of my book collection, i read the books and then give them away to people i think would enjoy them. i do this with both paperback and hardcover alike and if i decide i want to read a particular book again i just re-purchase it. needless to say i am broke and that s.k. has contributed greatly that. the only book i've ever kept is a first edition "the great sharkhunt" by hunter s. thompson. it is in pristine condition and i got it for 35 cents at a thriftstore, yet i've spent like a hundred dollars on the dark tower series alone ( read them twice ) and i still gave them away. maybe something is wrong with me...............well if so then i guess i've come to the right place!!

Don't know right off how many I have, but I think the only one I lack at this time is On Writing. I have the Bachman books as well the Straub collaborations in my collection as well. I'm working on acquiring them all in hardcover and am doing a pretty good job so far. A few years ago, my husband went to a used book store and bought me around 10 hardcovers for Christmas. Quite a few of my books are FE, and definitely my most prized possessions. In case of fire, first family pictures, then my SK books.
OhmyGod!
April 7th, 2009, 11:06 AM
Ive got about 30 I think...half of them paperbacks half hardcover. Most look like they've been read a lot...and they have. Some of them I bought secondhand, some new etc. But I like them as they are. Some books I got twice...one in dutch and the english version...because sometimes great (and funny) sayings get lost in translation.
Ive got one shelve in my bookcase specially for the stephen king novels...and it bends alot..heavy books!
Ive got no special versions...too expensive and too hard to get here in holland. But Im always on the hunt in secondhandbookstores! Maybe someday I get lucky!

I've currently got more than 400 Stephen King books. This includes US and UK editions (almost all firsts), proofs and Advance Reader Copies, signed limiteds, gift editions, signed trade hardcovers, hardcovers and paperbacks. This number does NOT include anthologies that contain King stories, magazines, comics or promotional items.
I have copies of almost all of King's fictional output that's been printed.

I've got a crazy number of books, so sometimes it's hard to keep track of them. I've got just about everything by Stephen King except the few I don't care for and the last couple that came out. Books are just getting too expensive for me these days. A paperback costs close to twenty dollars where I live, and hardbacks are forty to fifty, so I might have to deal with library copies for awhile, at least until I can find some more at library booksales.
I keep all of my stephen king books on book shelves, which I suppose is something because I only have shelf space for about half the books I own. The rest are in big piles pushed up against the shelves or otherwise stacked and shoved wherever I can find the space.

I am up to owning 3 book cases full of books .... and still more in the closet. One of those is Stephen King only. I think I have pretty much everything and the majority in 1st edition. Most of my Sai King books are hard cover but I do have a few duplicates in paper back and some paper back 1st editions too.

I have something around 12-15 books, which I'm still convinced is a tiny number. The only other thing that I'm really looking forward to with the SK books, other than getting a great amount of pleasure from reading them, is the great amount of pleasure from collecting them. I anticipate I'll be doing it for a while; for the ones that I love the most I'll try my ass off to find the first edition hardbacks of them. But for the most part, I loved used paperbacks! I buy exclusively from Amazon and there's no better feeling then sinking into a book with tattered edges and tanned pages with the original cover on the front... it just makes it feel so much more magical.

So, I went through a box in my garage looking for some of the Dark Tower series... which I didn't find. But, I did find quite a few Stephen King books and this may sound odd but it was really a good experience...kind of like finding old friends I forgot I had around.

My collection is quite a mess, because I have the translations, the originals, the hard covers, the paperbacks...this size, that size... horrible. I am basically only satisfied with Algoritam (Croatian publisher) versions, since they have beautiful images on their hardcovers etc. Two of my shelves are filled with only Stephen King... and an occasional Lovecraft:blush:

I have over 40 books at home and around 10 more at my parents' house, but there are many more and some I had and exchanged for new ones. I don't keep them hidden or protected -I like to touch them and reread them and be able to pet them when I get the urge or go though them looking for a specific passage or part. To me they are not collectible items -they're friends, and I like to see they seem used. It's sad to me seeing a clean and perfectly tidy book. In my eyes it means the book wasn't loved.

My Stephen King Book Collection is up to 46 now and still going!!! I keep them all together on my bookcase which houses over 1,000 books! Yes, I'm obsessed with books, can't stop buying them. I know it is becoming unreasonable, but I have had this passion all my life!! I just can't bear to part with them. I love the feel, the smell and the look of books-not to mention reading them!!! Well, I almost have them all. Danse Macabre arrived last week. I have about 59 books of SK.
They're not yet displayed, haven't bought a bookcase yet, but I have a list of all the books I own so I don't buy anything twice.
Most of them are in Dutch, my native tongue, but now I rather buy them in English. The language he writes them in, is truly better.
I've got hardbacks and paperbacks mixed. They're all new, but mostly pockets. The Dark tower series are the same edition. But mostly I buy the cheapest one I find, don't make that much money. :glare:

I have 41 of his masterpieces! I've acquired them mostly as gifts from my husband- if he sees one that I do not have he'll bring it home for me, he is so thoughtful! A few I have purchased on my own, and a few were gifts from my mom. I have all of the books that were available in Australia before the internet.... and now am slowly starting to build up the ones that were never released here. Some of you may already know - I had my first edition collection stolen when someone burgled my house so my early books are no longer 1st editions but all Hard cover. I have pretty much everything from Carrie through to JAS... but still finding new stuff online that I have never heard of. I have also started collecting the Audio books but that collection is still rather small.
I too am fanatical when it comes to my books - no one can borrow them and if I get a first edition from overseas or a signed book - I wont read it - I go and by the soft cover for reading. They are all on display in the study - get heaps of comments from visitors as they always stop and read the titles. funny as they usually will see something like the Green Mile and say "there was a movie with that title" :grinning:

I have atleast one of each that I have been able to find and as many as three of others I would guess I have about 100 books in all maybe more. I have the quiz books 1&2 and I have the encyclopedia. I have the Bachman books as well as collaborations with other authors. I have never gotten rid of one and I have been collecting for thirty years or so.

I have a beautiful little collection.
DTVII AE that was signed by King at Three Kings
Duma Key signed at the same time
1st/1st of DoTT--unsigned but my most favorite book of the series.
Candles Burning signed by Mrs. King
We're all in this Together signed by Owen King
20th Century Ghosts signed by Joe Hill with a little sketch
Plus trade copies of every one of his books. But those are my top shelf. I love collecting and seeing him last time meant I could also see Washington DC so it was totally win, win.

:glare:Wow, sounds like you must have one of the most elaborate collections I've heard of so far. Proctect those babies.

I have 33 in paperback and 13 hardback copies in my SK collection.
Some have been collected over the years from b'day, christmas, thank you etc presents to me from my wonderful family and friends. I have to keep a list of SK books I need and distribute it out as needed :grinning: Some I bought myself whenever I have a bit of spare cash.
They are all kept on bookshelfs in my bedroom, above my bed (so they are close at hand, I usually read just before going sleep at night so if I finish one I don't have to go far to grab another :biggrin2: ). My OH says he gets worried they're all gonna fall on our heads during the night and kill us both if the shelves have to hold much more. I just tell him to make sure the life insurance is up-to-date so the kids will be okay

My collection is kind of small at the moment, changing over to all hardcover, and so don't really have many paperbacks anymore, but here's what I have
All in hardcover, unless otherwise noted:
The Shining, picked this up at Jellybeans Saturday for $1.00, the lady told me, just some old hardcover, a buck.
Different Seasons
The Talisman
Gerald's Game
Skeleton Crew
The Eyes of the Dragon
Firestarter
Misery
The Long Road Home comic collection
Rose Madder
Just After Sunset
From a Buick 8
The Colorado Kid (PB)
The Plant (not sure how to classify, it's printed from the net)
The Stand, complete and uncut
My Pretty Pony
Nightmares in the Sky
Cycle of the Werewolf (PB)
Pet Sematary
Creepshow (comic book)
Rage (PB) (not a bachman book, it's on it's own)
I have the Dark Tower series in a bunch of mismatched paperbacks, will eventually end up with hardcover of the entire library from King, just takes time, and moolah.

I get on a roll when something interests me.
When I got into Phish, I decided I wanted to download as many Phish shows as I could get. I don't know the number, but I now have a whole mess of binders full of nearly every show from 1994 to the present day.
With Stephen King, I just got into his books about 3 years ago. I've since bought them all (1, 2, or 3 at a time), and read a little more than half. Everything up until Cell, I have in PB. Cell and on, I have the hardcovers. I had to get a used copy of the Bachman Books to get Rage, and that's a smaller sized hardcover.

right now, I only own 2, The green Mile and On writing. Both of which I were given to me. Now since im getting really into it. I found a used book store down the street that sells all paperbacks for 3.00 and the hard covers for 6.00. They have almost all SK books imaginable. They also take trade ins for .75. Im going down this weekend with a bunch of old books that are in my garage collecting dust and get me a whole lot of Stephen King.

I had all of his books in hardback. Last year, I lost my house due to a divorce, and moved into a 14x70 trailer. I gave over 200 books to my local small town library, they were happy to get them. That included Mr. King's books. I only kept the unabridged version of 'The Stand' and 'The Green Mile' which I could not bear to part with. The rest, I can read again from the library.

i have very few HBs (hearts in atlantis, lisey's story, from a buick 8) but have 28 paperbacks, and pretty much every movie adaptation of his novels on dvd (exluding the likes of pet sematary 2, carrie 2 etc). missing the mangler and needful things, but just ordered mangler from the net. will never part with my collection. i know it sounds kinda sappy but it really is like a part of me now!

I have over 69 books and found at least 39 of them are first editions. I have one book, "Christine" signed by my favorite author, himself, "The King" and I also have a portrait of him done by Lance Brown of Spencerville, Ohio, signed by Stephen AND Tabitha. It is a very cool portrait because it is made from the story "Rainy Season". If you get real close, you can read the story in the portrait. It is number 41 out of 100. I REALLY cherish the picture. I don't normally get excited about collecting things, but Stephen has been my favorite author for so long that I have to try to get my hands on everything I can. I'm still trying!

I have every book with the exception of the two screenplays in Hardback. I also have a Artist Edition of Little Sisters of Eluria. I'm starting to get into more serious collecting, and am saving up to purchase a new bookshelf and some signed deluxe copies. :cool2:

i started collecting when i was 12 and i have every U.S. trade edition first printing title, including the Grant Dark Tower series, some U.K. first printings, quite a few limiteds including DT (although i'm missing DT2 #644 - can someone help a girl out?), all the comics, a signed Joe Hill 20th century ghosts, a signed Tabitha King small world, a cool cujo paper mask promotion, and i was able to attend 3 SK signings, soon to be 4 :)
i keep them on a glassed encased bookshelf and i won't let anyone touch or read them except for me because i don't trust anyone else with them.
my prized book is probably my 1st ed. gunslinger that stephen & michael both signed.

You might want to try this thread on TheDarkTower.com:

In it, some of the TDT members are posting what numbers they have and what they are looking for. You might want to post that you're looking for DTII #644. Can't hurt!

I have way to many King books to count but the only one that matters is the next (new)King book I get to read.

I adore collections. I have seen some great King collections and I'm very envious. I hope to someday have a case full of the hardback originals and ones with the covers that I most enjoy. I fully intend to read every book King has published and along with that I will probably end up owning every one, too.
At the moment I am not living at home so I don't know how many exactly I have, but including the 20 or so collection of King books I ordered from eBay a month or so ago I will have around 40. I don't protect them but I try to take care of them, even the old tattered used ones I've accumulated, and I just stack them up on my bedside table with the one I'm currently reading on it's own closest to my head. When I get home and sort out my growing collection, that stack on my bedside table is going to be around a foot and a half high.

I have every SK book ever published in first edition hard back. I started reading with Carrie, and could barely wait over the years for the next one to come out. They are in a special bookcase in a room downstairs. My other books are all upstairs in bookcases. I also have every movie, and CD collection. I've got my NY Times tickets for November 10th, and it will be my first trip to New York, and the first time I will see Stephen in person. I'm hoping to buy a signed Under the Dome at the event.

I love books as much as anyone, but after being accepted to a far away law school, we held a yard sale (hubby prohibited the moving of any books less than 100 years old, books are D**M heavy plus we were poor and needed the money). A few SK books didn't sell (I know....I myself was aghast), but most did, so right now I am at about 10. Everything published since the dreaded Law School debacle, and those that did not sell (Misery makes that list). I sincerely miss my copy of Dreamcatcher. I really liked that book (If anyone reads "The Host", I thought they were different takes on a similar theme, Kings being the first mind you).

I have all of the books that have been published so far, plus most of the anthology books that have included a King short story, quite a few of the hard to find magazines that were put out that include King stories (ebay), practically every issue of Entertainment Weekly he's done a story in, the King beanie bear, the official King bobble head, currently have 6 signed books from King and have lost count on how many autographs I have from people in King movies & TV miniseries. I got a King sized collection of King.
