cell is one of my favorite Stephen king novels, but I do not know to many people who like cell. I was wandering what everybody thinks of it?

Didn`t like it at all.
One of his worst works, IMO.

I liked it, but in a different way than I love most King books. Usually it's his characters I fall in love with, but with Cell it was the atmosphere.

I was really excited for this because I'm a zombie freak and I was not disappointed!!! I found the characters marvelous, endearing, and realistic!
AWSS ..... Insomnia is definitely at the top of my SK list :)

I got a wee tangled at the end , I still favor Needful Things. I was excited to see
Cell at the bookstore, the first Novel released after Sai's accident..Cell was proof
that my favorite author is no quitter!

I didn't like it either. I hate the way he decided to end it because I don't like those kinds of endings. I'm also a big animal person, so reading the beginning about people losing their minds and torturing their animals did it for me. I almost didn't read past chapter 1 because of that. I saw too much of that in real life when I worked at an animal shelter.

I enjoyed it as well. I will agree that it is not one of his strongest works but still had some memorable moments. For me it felt that the second half of the book was not as good as the first but overall the experience was fun.

I like the ending. I liked the book. It is one of the few books that's on my re-read list.

I do think there is something of generation gap showing in the way SK and younger people (like me) look at technology.

I didn't like it the first time because I didn't think SK spent enough time elaborating on things - people, places, mood, etc - like he usually does.

I changed my mind after a recent re-read. It's a really good horror story. It's fast paced, has lots of creep factor, and offers an ambiguous ending that will make you ponder the possibilities. Can't ask for much more from an SK novel.

I just read Cell about a couple of months ago and found it really good. I felt King was back to his roots with this one. There was one thing that bummed me out (which I won't spoil for those who haven't read it yet) but overall it was a good novel.

It was ok..it at least exceeded my expectations...a little bit of The Stand model to it on obviously a more limited scale.

I just finished Cell about a week ago. I didn't like it as much as some of the other King that I've read, but I thought it was a good book. I am also a big fan of the zombie genre, so I really liked the way the story played with the conventions of the genre.

Part of the zombie (or really any kind of post-apocalyptic type of scenario) genre that I like is watching the way the survivors interact among themselves and their new world. In Cell, I felt that King painted a very vivid picture of that.

I'm on the fence about the upcoming (maybe? if they get around to it) Eli Roth directed adaptation. It'll be interesting to see if they can capture that world without making it too gruesome like "Hostel".

Cell is still one of my favorite King books. The ending does leave a bit to be desired, but overall I thought it was awesome. As a huge fan of Romero's zombie films, it was a bit like coming home :)

I don't feel that "Cell" is one of King's best, but I really enjoyed the book and I actually did like the end. I don't know how to do a spoiler tag, so I won't discuss why and ruin it for everyone. (me=noob)

Really enjoyed Cell. Devoured it in two days, although it is fast-paced and didn't feel like typical King to me. I'm from Massachusetts, and it was fun to read Boston getting torn apart.

Supposedly the movie deal with Eli Roth has fallen through, and he will not be directing Cell anytime in the near-future.

I liked "Cell" a lot, but can't help thinking that Mr King had been inspired by all the zombie films made during the last couple of years. It strongly reminded me of films like Dawn of the Dead or 28 Days Later (good zombie movies, by the way). What I found a bit unusual for the "typical" Stephen King-novel was that everything started happening so early on in the book, without any in-depth introduction of the main characters and so on. So, if you get bored by long introductions, this is a great read for you!

Dude, if King needed me to answer the phone, I'd be on it in a heartbeat.

If God needed me to answer the phone, I'd say "make me".

Anyways, Cell was amazing. I was a little annoyed when the zombies started group learning, because I was a lot more scared when we didn't know what the hell was going on, and anywhere those phoners were you had to worry about getting your face bashed in with whatever blunt (or sharp, or... fuzzy?) weapon was around.

Ooooooo, and it seriously gave me wood to think about watching someones life get flushed away, by having a phone too close to their head.

I'm right with Clay in never being able to forget pixie light smashing into that pole, and laughing through a bent nose and chin soaked in bloody teeth. And that power suit woman... would have been totally hooked on my sexuality, whether she rejected or responded to it fully, she would have at least been sickeningly aware. (man she thinks provides enough or not) Sorry babe, it's my curse. ;)

Hehe, I couldn't smoke dope for about six years there, because of an extreme anxiety condition and needing to go to the hospital every time I puffed even a hit, because I'd feel like I honestly couldn't breathe. I still hung out with all my druggie friends though, and whenever they used to offer me hits, I'd use 'Cell' as a good visual example of what I would do if I smoked some of the sickness they always passed in their glass bubblers. "No thanks... if I hit that, you'd see me claw my face off screaming while I made twisted gutteral noises slaughtering everything in my path..." Hehe. Plus, I always got excited about how King invoked the story into my backyard. ;)

I did like it even though it was a sort of "zombie" style book. My friend gave it 2 me and said read it because its SK best...I read it...It's not his best, but its a great book. the only problems i had was the zombie style thing going on because its bee done to death but it was worth reading because of the oringal take on it.

I loved the way it jumped right into the action within the first few pages. Very exciting! I was not thrilled with the end. I expected more given how it started out.

I'll have to reread it to see if my opinion changes.

the reboot worked

However, I am not sure I needed that. It's like the original end to The Mist, fine by me.

I'll admit I was in a SK drought when I read 'CELL'. And even though I had just graduated from college and was 'fiction starved', I loved this story and would highly recommend it.

There was a lot more meaning in this story then most people have commented on or discoved. I loved the ending-but it might actually be another beginning :smile2:

To appreciate King's excellent ear for the blue-collar dialect. The few lines of dialogue Beer Keg Guy has with Clay are pitch-perfect and should win some sort of award. "Roaming minutes. The **** are those?" I can hear it as if I was standing in that parking lot in Malden.

I quite liked it ! different to his earlier works but thats what I like about him - he writes in a totally unique way each time so you never know what you are going to get from one novel to the next....

Its why I can never read Koonz (always the same storyline !)

Didn't like it much. It felt to me as if it was a short story that over expanede its own capacities and was never deep or thorough enough for a real novel. Most of Mr King's novels elaborate on people, characters and the events that brought them to be who they are. Cell was just a bit.. bland.

I found the beginin,g of 'Cell' hard to take, I found it a little o.t.t when everybody started to tare into each other. I soon began to warm to the story and the magic of the characters as usual I found captivating. The result of this story has me very cautious with my cell phone and I only use it for emergencies and texting!!!!!!!!

Fast-paced, gruesome details, plenty of action, but also plenty of emotion, and always the wonderfully developed characters that you hat to see go, and I always love to see all the little references and such in King's works and be able to identify what they are. This was definitely one of my favorites, don't know what's not to like. I love zombies and post apocalyptic and horror, so there ya go.

I LUVED this book!!! Just finished it yesterday.

I felt like we don't know enough about the human brain to know whether this could really happen or not. Really?? And also it got me to thinking about how human beings feel about "different" people. And really its all survival of the fittest I suppose. The phoners may have had some neat tricks, but in the end they didn't have the ability to think, atleast not yet.

One of my favourite books, period.

Before reading Cell, I often neglected my cell phone for ages, leaving it at home or letting the battery run down, much to my mother's chagrin, because I had a creeping and difficult to explain hatred for the device.

After reading Cell I kept it turned off and far away from me on purpose, with the feeling that I was part of some secret club now that understood how horrible these deviced could truly be.

I use it when absolutely necessary now-- it's better than walking home at night-- but every so often I catch myself looking at it and thinking 'what if...?'

Constantly Reading,
Anneko Martian

I just finished the book last night. It was decent. I loved the beginning and the last 100 pages (though the ending left me confused). I just felt the middle dragged on for too long; getting from point A to point B; point B to point C; point C to point D, etc. Overall entertaining, but it could have been better.

I loved Cell. I don't like zombies. They look messy and make a lot of mess. But I never thought of the phoners in Cell as zombies even when they were at the phone crazies stage. Zombies are just re-animated corpses. The phoners were alive when they were violated by technology crazies.

The scenes between Tom and his cat, Clay and the elderly phoner and the left-over ham, and Jordan's revenge were some of my favourites.

And my favourite quote by the fabulous Ms Alice Maxwell. " At least we did something!" she shouted after them. " What did you do? Just what the f*** did you do?"

They're all fabulous and huggable.:biggrin2:

Amazing story in my eyes, b/c think of it, what if something like that happened. But my favorite part of the book, is the last sentence of the book when he is talking to his son, but just plain and simple, one of my favorites.
PS would love to see a movie come from this.

I loved it, too. I particularly enjoyed Cell's fast-pace and the fact that it doesn't drag on (for it certainly could have.) At the same time, I wanted a longer novel. As usual, King's characters compel the reader to know more about them, and-in turn-forces the novel to its inevitable end.

I enjoyed the story, it sort of gave me the heebie-jeebies. After all, do we really know what cellular waves might really do to us? The common concensus for years was that electricity won't hurt you as long as you don't touch it, but now they know that high power lines can cause power waves that affect people. I guess everyone thinks if you can't see something, it doesn't exist. It's not far fetched at all to think that someone could subliminally affect us through cellular communication. They do it on TV all the time.
