Iīve got a question. I read last year or so that they used a puppet for the scenes where Gage comes back from the dead, because they didnīt want Miko Hughes to play those cruel scenes. Is that true? And where can I find a picture of this puppet?
Iīm also interested in Behind the scenes footage. I have an old VHS copy and there are no outtakes or behind the scenes footage on it.
Thanks for your help.

I don't live in US, but my brazilian DVD has no outtakes. But it's partially true, Miko did most of the parts where he's zombie, but in scenes like Gage falling from the attic, for example, they had to use a puppet, they wouldn't, of course, threw Miko from the attic hoping that Dale Midkiff was quick enough to get him.

Ya know I've always wondered about that. I sure as heck wouldn't want one of my kids running around with a scalpel hacking people up, no matter how much money you paid for that, or even if it WAS a Stephen King movie, LOL! If only I was shorter.......

Had a quick look around and apparently there is a special edition of Pet Semetary available on DVD which has 3 behind the scenes featurettes, 2 of which deal with the look of the film and special effects. Not sure if theres anything about Gage but might be worth a look.

Oh cool! Thanks, I'll have to see if they have it on amazon! Though like most movies made from books, I did like the book better.
When I read the book and they were going up to bury the dang cat, I was saying to myself, nope I wouldn't do it! How many of you would have gone up there and buried your cat anyway?? I'm just curious?! Now I admit, I might have gone up there with my equipment and tried to capture ghostly evidence, but bury my cat up there?? No way!!!

Has anyone ever wondered whether he has strange memories of the filming, of course it wouldn't be so scary behind the scenes, but its still a chilling concept for a child to comprehend.. I wonder if he ever had nightmares...hehe, because I saw this movie when I was about 12, and it left me alittle afriad of dark paths leading into the woods..

hehe...I'm sure he doesn't remember much. I'm not sure how old he was when it was filmed, but the memories are probably covered and pushed back into his mind with things from teen and adult years by now. But after reading this, i can't help but giggle when I pass by semataries...heh.

oh, by the way...where can I get IT and Pet Sematary on dvd or vhs? I've tried looking everywhere and most places don't have them, well at least not here in my area around Chicago.

I don't know Chicago so I can't tell you a local place other than to suggest a used book store that sells movies too.
I know you can find it on Amazon.com, they have freekin' everything.

Pet Cemetery is the ONLY book of Stephen King's that I have not read. This is due to the entire year of nightmares that I suffered through after watching the film in the fifth grade (these centered upon Gage and the dead sister with spinal meningitis). This fear, of course, led me to begin checking out his books the following summer. I was reading It upon the start of sixth grade. I plan to gather some internal fortitude next week and see if my library carries a copy. I may, at that point, check it out. Little zombie kids freak the heck out of me. I shuddered just reading you all's recollections.

You know I have always wondered about this. Not with Pet Semetary, but with The Exorcist. I can't imagine Linda Blair's parents allowing her to do such a God aweful, hellish movie. But I suppose it's different when you're sitting in a chair, and you have people doing your makeup, and making you look monsterish. I suppose it's not that scary then.:umm::dunno:

I wouldn't mind of my kid acts as a murdering raved zombie :smile2:. It is only acting and I believe that once a kid knows the difference between fake blood and real one he'll be less suseptible of trying in real life things he sees in movies.

Especially near the end of the movie... that was really something, I know it's all special effects and movie magic, but it really looked so real! Good scenes...

SK can help you ... with that. :) Honeslty. When you EDIT the nightmare, yes.. edit! your brain gets around the terror by realizing it isn't rea. I think he is of the "flooding" therepy mindset really , even theough he may not mean to be. Confront the fear. Read a scary book! It's safe! :) --Abbie

Possibly. How would they have a toddler act out those scenes tho? It would have been difficult if not tramatic for the child?

Watched this the other night for the first time in years.
I'm not sure how old the kid actually was, but I don't think he'd remember all that much about it...and films aren't shot sequentially, they're edited that way. How much the girl, being older, was freaked out by it is a better question, IMO.
And that 'sister with spinal meningitis' bit never gets easier to watch.

I don't know why, but the movie version of this always makes me laugh. I think part of it is that Miko Hughes went on to steal scenes in "Kindergarten Cop" with Ahhhnold. Watching him sneer and say "No Fair!" before he trips over the door jam and face plants into the wall just cracks me up every time I see it.

I just rented Pet Semetary and watched it for the first time. I have to say that it is by far the scariest movie I have seen in a while. I hope they used a puppet though because it seem like it would be traumatic for a little fella to be in those scenes!
I love this movie and would love to buy it.
