great story! dunno what the requirements might be (# of posts, perhaps?) but there's a social group been talkin' about bones for a bit. click on the "community" across the top there, or follow some of the other trails to it when you can. don't know what the cleveland dispatch had to say about it, or the hundred and fifty others that usually weigh in on the first few pages of some books. does anyone read those things?

I read it when it first came out, and listened to it last year, read by Stephen King.

It's one of my favorites, very suspenseful! It's scary in a more real-to-me way than a lot of his other books.

When you read it, come back and tell us what you think!

Bag of Bones is my second favorite sK book. I literally could not believe how ingenious and fantastic it was. There's so much in it, he covers a lot of territory, but the main draw is how effectively he draws it--that he achieves what he sets out to so successfully.

For instance, there are dream sequences which are very powerful and impressionistic, like dreams can be, but like scary dreams. The underlying story, the reason for what is happening, turns out to be as creepy a concept as I've ever read from any horror author, or any author for that matter.

:smile2: I've read it and it was great...gets very scary and can be sad also..but it's one the best as always that SK has done..have you read Hearts in Atlantis? try that one..the first part is also the very good movie version..good reading...Mark FFVII:blush:

I re-read it probably about 6 months ago. I think I liked it more the second go-round, although it still isn't one of my favorites.

It is in my top three SK along with The Stand and Insomnia. The one thing I will say is it might not be as straight forward a read as some others, but if you like the complexity of books like my other two favs, you will like this one. It was a breathless reading for me almost, beyond page turner. You will certainly enjoy it.

Although never in my Top 5 List, this book is certainly one of the most memorable King books I've ever read. It's a very dark, very good story which I found at times shocking (no worries, I won't give you any spoilers) but was glad that I read it.

I got this from the charity shop today, really looking forward to reading it, though I want to power through the entire dark tower series first, so it may take a while before I get onto it :(

Bag of Bones is arguably my favorite Stephen King book. I really, really love the way he wrote the protagonist - it felt autobiographical in a lot of ways, though I know it wasn't. I think SK did a particularly excellent job in this book of interweaving "real world" issues with spiritual and psychic happenings. I love that Mike's mourning for his dead wife is a constant theme throughout the book even as he falls in love again. I love his descriptions of Kyra's particular way of speaking - he's got three-year-olds down pat! As a writer myself, Mike's struggles with his work bring a very familiar note into the story for me, which is perhaps one of the reasons why I enjoyed it so much.

I felt that this was a story about the endurance of love from beyond physical borders, and the triumph of that same love and strength over a force that had caused evil happenings in the town for three generations.

Mike was very, very real to me...and thus, when strange things started happening, I was more scared than usual...because I could actually believe that they were possible.

Kudos, Mr. K!

I REALLY disliked it the first time. The second time I read it I loved it.

My mom actually stopped reading Stephen King because of this book (and she's the one who turned me on to him) because she says "He just got too weird". I'm always thinking about how much she love Pet Semetary but a haunted cabin was too weird? Okay, mom.

Hi,

Read it about a week ago, and have to say the name kind of bothered me until I figured out about the real "Bag of Bones" and then I instantly loved it. I felt that I could relate to Mike Noonan so well, and everything about Mattie and Kyra rocked my world!

Definitely one of Sai King's very best!

Long days and pleasant nights

There is a section of this book that is just about the most gripping and intense stories ever written. I think it really starts when Mike talks to Bill Dean for the last time, and concludes with the shade of his wife telling him she loves him. It's powerful good. And damn near made this Constant Reader shed a tear or two. As good as anything ever written..... by Sai King or anyone else.

I just finished this about a week ago, then went right back and read it again when I was done. Absolutely one of my favorites now. So much emotion and a very striking sense of love and loss. It's a really different kind of ghost story.

Just finished it, or I should say, just finished listening to it. While I'm a lover of the writen word, recently my life has become so complicated that I don't have time to actually read. But I can't do without my books, which is where audio books come in and have saved my sanity.

Anyhow, I just recently finished listening to it being read by SK himself and I consider it a great book to read. Very SKish in the writing style, but also orginal in how the story plays out.

Read it and get back to us as to what you thought of it.

Bag of bones is brillant, i am reading it for the 11th time. it is like a ghost story Mike's wife dies in the plot, but in future pages he informs us of their relationship. when you get into the book it is like david against golaith for the child that the evil tycoon wants.

The characters are well developed. the narration is good it gets creepy at times, but you know you always hoe the underdog will win. one of my favourties.

I'm about to finish it. So far I'm loving it. I do admit it was hard to start on. I actually had the book for awhile, but could'nt get hooked right away like my other King faves. But once I started the force feed I was glad I did. Those of you feeling the same way I implore to read on, it definitely is a true King novel.

I absolutely loved this book. It's my personal favorite book of all time, and it got me into looking up more Stephen King since it was the first of his books I've read. It truly scared me sometimes. Something I have never thought was possible in literature. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Btw, I'm new here *waves*

Bag of Bones was a great novel to read after Duma Key. Even though its sort of reverse order from the order they were published, Bag of Bones is definitely a good follow up to Duma Key, or visa versa. If you enjoyed Duma Key, you'll love this one, too. They are very similar to each other.

In the back of Bag of Bones, it calls the novel a "bedside companion" to Duma Key. Both good reads indeed.

I can't believe its been 10 years. I just bought the old paperback of Bag of Bones from Barnes and Noble earlier today while I was out of town. I dont even remember much about what went on in the book. I think Bag of Bones is the most underrated Stephen King book ever

This is my all time favorite SK book. I have read it six times since I was 14 (I am now 24) and it gets better every time I read it. It can seem relly slow at first (first 4 chapters), but you need to get the background info to understand the emotional impact of what hapens in the rest of the book. Enjoy!

Wow..."Bag of Bones" was an amazing novel. When Mike got involved with the legal aspects of child custody, it slowed down significantly for me. But that part of the novel was necessary for the furious pace at the end of the book. I was blown away by it! I just finished reading this two days ago and I'm still thinking about how it ended.

I'd read "Lisey's Story" before "Bag of Bones" and they compliment each other nicely. Has anyone ever explored the possibility that Lisey and Mike Noonan might develop a romantic relationship after the end of "Lisey's Story"?. That would make a great short story or novella that could link these two masterpieces! Imagine that...Mike Noonan helps Lisey overcome her fear of The Long Boy...and Lisey helps Mike recover from the madness of "Bag of Bones"...hmmm...:biggrin2:

Maybe "The Outsider" (lol) that combined with Sara at the end of Bag of Bones is from Boo'ya Moon! LOL!

But that sounds like an interesting idea (doubt it will ever happen though).
