:dunno: This maybe a little late since I started reading 'Just After Sunset' a wk ago and my question concerns the end of "N." Is there major typos with the good Dr. Bonstains' descriptions or is it the brilliant mind of Mr.King making us beleive that the Dr. is going more delusional as he ponders AF? Sorry I can't give you a page no. since I don't have the book with me. Maybe someone can shed some light on this..it's almost at the end of his notes. Also here's a little side ? concerning "AF"....who can tell me what major movie and is also a true story concerning "AF" that is well known but not one of Mr. Kings' stories or movies???? Thanks,
Mark FFVII:eek2::biggrin2:

I agree...when I stumbled across the first typo it caught my eye and thought it strange. As I continued to read i thought "freak'n brilliant" imagine becoming so paranoid and delusional that you loose the ability to spell simple words. Now, thats crazy!!!

:wow: Thanks for your reply..Is there something going on here that I and/or you don't know about?? I'm sure that other normal people have noticed this and why only 1-2 responses?? Do we have a special collectors edition of J.A.S. that was over-looked somehow?? And also why out of all these members no one else has said anything...unless we missed it being late reading it..I don't think so!:eek2: And where is JohnD. from the UK in all this:dunno:,, for me he must know something?????

have to agree with blunt head and random, it's not typos. Reason I am sure is because the audio CD points out the spelling errors. He is going delusional ....

Hi,
Well, if it's on the audio then I think case closed, QED.

:eyebrow: ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THIS??? AND WHERE DO GET THIS INFO FROM ??:wow:The onset of the dysfunction is gradual, but becomes more and more remarkable. sK employed a similar technique in the short story The End of the Whole Mess.

Nightmares and Dreamscapes . I suggest reading it as well because it's a fantastic story.

The TV adaptation wasn't half bad, either, iirc.
I already figured they were typos - though being me it took until the second read.
I guess the logic to it is, the doc is falling apart mentally and is perhaps rushing to get his account written, so it's partly 'forgetting' how to spell and partly because of rushing. To prove this can happen, write something - longhand or on computer (results would show best on screen, though) - as fast as you can, without using the old 'internal censor/editor', then go back later and have a look. It's amazing, the dumb stuff you do despite having otherwise excellent skills. :wink2:

ooo bit harsh there earlier - I think the reason there are not a lot of responses on this thread (as mentioned earlier) is because most of us who read the story recognised more or less straight away that it was because the guy was becoming more and more delusional - similar to the main character in Duma Key who kept using the wrong words after having the brain injury.
I didnt think for a second it was a typo..........:eyebrow:

Yeah SK uses typos in a lot of stories to denote a decline into insanity of some sort. Off the top of my head, in Skeleton Crew he uses this in the story "Survivor Type" a lot. Its a common technique for a lot of other writers who delve into insanity.

I think the 'typos' were purposely added.....to show the degree of OCD. I believe that the typos were included so that each entry had an even number of each letter.....or maybe I miscounted...

Many writers fight language and grammar and Kelsey Grammer. Because they can't quite grease what they want to really say, ya dig?
So they say it another way. Does tintinnabulation ring a bell or three?

I thought that it had to do with counting letters as he suggested earlier in the story, or counting words, and which were easily divided. The funny thing is that I did find myself counting them a few times but then I told myself not to. I listened, but it kept begging me to do it. If it wasn't on purpose it should have been.

I don't know if it was for counting purposes or not, but I did think it showed how Dr. Bonstains was going a little crazy... :oh:
It caught me off guard at first, but as it became more frequent, I adjusted to it. Lol

I think that in the end the reader is ment to understand that the Dr. really had a lot more going on on his mind to pay atention to his grammar...
