I don't go to my local library often for books--usually I buy what I'm looking for. I just finished The Wastelands on Sunday though, and couldn't wait to read Wizards and Glass so I went to the library at lunch today.
They had lots of King books but they were all filed under Mystery. Isn't this strange? Has anyone had the same experience at their library? I would have thought the books would just be in the Fiction section, although I could see the Dark Tower books maybe being in the sci fi. But Mystery??!

I gave up on the library. It seems that no matter what I'm looking for they never have it. The mystery section does seem like a strange place for Uncle Stevie to be hanging out.

I've always found them in Fiction, too. Interesting.

Our library has a website, and you can check the catalogue before you go. Another trick is request books from another branch and they'll transfer them for you in a couple days. I recently started looking for Sci Fi books, and was surprised at the selection.

My library doesn't have that many SK books, couldn't tell you why, and i never thought to ask. I buy them all anyway because when i ask for a popular book you usually have to wait mths.

My library has SK in the fiction section, and I'm lucky that they have a great selection of his books! Before the new library opened SK was in a horror section. Unfortunately, they just morphed the horror section into fiction so it is hard to explore and try new horror authors without digging.

I can't remember the last time I was at the library. But the last time I was there I think I found Danse Macabre.

The ones I find are all in the Horror section. But then again, those are just the paperbacks. I checked out some from there, and only got the Stand from the Fiction area (I was sad they didnt have it in paperback. It was hell carrying that ginormous thing around in my backpack all day). I'm more of a paperback stalker since the books I prefer tend to be long, and I'd rather carry something small over an added 10lBs of hardcover book.

Thanks for all the good responses. They had a big selection of King's books but I think putting them in the Mystery area (which is one big bookcase) limits the people who might pick up a book because the title intrigued them.
It's been stated on another post that a lot of people don't realize Stephen King wrote "The Green Mile." Someone might remember seeing the movie and think, if the movie was that good, imagine how good the book will be. And then another Constant Reader is born! But if they're not into Mystery writers, they won't run across it. I will send them a suggestion to consider using the Fiction category. :smile2:

My library also has an on line catalog. This is very convenient because if my local library doesn't have the book they order it from another library. If not for libraries I would not be able to cater to my voracious need of reading good books.
The fact is that I cannot get to the library often and being able to have the books waiting for me is also great.

Well, my library is like Mahree, but with a twist. To find SK books I have to either use the "electronic card catalog" which there is always a line or if I choose to browse, SK can be in fiction, horror, mystery, or sci-fi. Interesting huh.

When using the on line catalog I just enter King, Stephen
Then choose Author
Every thing in all participating libraries comes up.
Then you can just browse through and put a hold on any one, even if it isn't in my local library.
My local library notifies me when the book comes in.
I would be frustrated using a library like Q'smum's. , and am now especially feeling blessed with the library I have here.

Thanks for the replies. Just wanted to state again that the books were all on the Mystery shelf, which was puzzling to me. I went to the Fiction section first and then had to resort to the computerized system to find out they were shelved in the Mysteries--and that was a "mystery" to me!
