I an enjoyed the novella. It was one of my first SK stories, and it was the one that first introduced me to Castle Rock. I have finally gotten around to reading Needfull Things, and I'm loving all the references to Pop Merill and the Emporium Galorium.

"The Sundog" is very good. Actually, everything in Four Past Midnight is excellent, although I'm tempted to suggest The Library Policeman is the best of all.
"The Sundog" is one of the only things King has written which has genuinely scared me. I can see those photos of that dog so clearly in my mind, and I swear I used to have dreams of something like that when I was a little kid. Gives me the willies! But I like it very much.

This one just isn't doing it for me. I'm at the section where Pop isn't having success at selling the camera. I shall persevere, though!

Scared the living snot out of me. I can't remember if I read this one before or after Needful Things... I read them very near to the same time, devouring everything King the local and college libraries could offer me...
I was already afraid of regular, non-supernatural dogs, too...
Constantly Reading,

I finished the darned thing. It was an okay read. But that ending? Sorry, but that was just cheesy.

Did anyone else notice John Delevan puked out of the door of "the old Ford" he had back then when he was telling Kevin the story of how he came to owe Pop Merrill the money, but in the next instance he says he put the money under the mat of "the old Chevy?"
Did they have two cars? Or did the editor miss something?

I'd like to know what ever happened to old Pop's money?

I would think his money burned up in the fire...He seemed like someone who would keep all his money in cans and not have any in banks.

I've been re-reading all of the classic king books for some time now. most of them I read in my early teens, now 34.
I think, if you have the imagination, You can connect any Stephen King book to another. I just finished cujo and made a few connection theories of my own to other king books.
In the dead zone, Dodd kills women and children. perhaps he is possessed. maybe that is why people do the things they do. they become possessed by a demon.
once Dodd is killed the demon leaves that body and returns to it's elemental form. that elemental form is the same thing that possesses cujo. The rabies just weakens the poor animal enough so that a door could be opened.
this same castle rock demon is IT.
the sun dog is the same IT demon. perhaps someone photographed the demon, trapping it in the camera. like the old myth that says something about how taking a photograph steals a piece of your soul.
Something like that.

I love stories that are supernatural. "The Sun Dog" was really creepy. I love the connections that Stephen King makes in his stories.

There is much mention of Frank Dodd in Cujo and the monster in the closet isn't really explained so yeah I'd like to believe that too.I'm nearly finished with the Sun Dog and in the foreword S King mentions that Sun dog is a kind of prelude to Needful things introducing Pop etc .I'm assuming the Emporium is destroyed in Sun Dog as it's gone in Needful things. Therefore I'm wondering if Leland Gaunt is in fact resposible for the camera etc in Sun Dog to get rid of Pop in order to make way for his own very similar shop?

I think this was the second best story in the book. I have to admit there were some parts that were a little slow, but I just kept on to see what happens in the end. I liked it! The very, very end... great ending! I like mysterious endings! :oo:

I never had creepy thoughts about polaroid cameras before. Why would you? Until this story. No one uses them anymore due to the digital age, but that makes them even creepier. SK already hit the digital scare factor in Cell, maybe he'll tackle the 10 mega pixel cybershot from hell next. Wishfull thinking.

Agreed,Senior Member.yup thats a scarey/interesting angle. Makes me pause to think it through again!Course thats what SK knows so well. He knows his Constant Readers skittering hearts so well! Such a well written story, perhaps he dreamed it first??
