Yeh, I watched this with Dawnie (Sknut70) a few months back. I didn't hate it but definitely won't ever watch it again.
The friendships of the guys, and alien subplot reminded me of Dreamcatcher (movie version) and I wouldn't be surprised if the writers had taken some inspiration from that.
Yeah, I wouldn't watch it again either. Maybe they took inspiration from Dreamcatcher, but that's as far as I would go. There are few similarities besides some basic archetypes.
Last night I watched Troll 2, considered to be one of the worst movies ever made. I've seen worse movies (The Room comes to mind), but this was wonderfully awful. It also has nothing to do with Troll 1 (there isn't even a single troll in the entire movie), and was only titled this to cash in on the minimal success of Troll 1. If anyone likes really terrible, terrible horror movies, I would recommend this piece of crap.

Reminds me of what they did with Halloween 3- Season of the Witch. That one had absolutely nothing to do with the Halloween franchise. It was about some mad scientist guy who developed some kind of way to turn kids into killing machines after they had viewed a certain commercial on the TV!???????????? Stupid waste of time.

Random DVD borrowed from a family member, ended up being Disney's Around the World in 80 Days with Jackie Chan, and I forget the other guy's name. It was kind of silly, but still pretty entertaining, and I'm interested in watching other, more serious versions maybe if there are any. I might even eventually take on reading the book, though I have to say, classics intimidate me most of the time, sadly I haven't read very many.

Yeah, I think I've seen parts of that one.
Fun bit of trivia...The original Troll film (released in 1986), has a main character named Harry Potter, who befriends a witch and battles golbins, trolls, mythical creatures, etc...They claim JK Rowling ripped them off. I've never actually seen the movie, but I seriously doubt the accusation.

Hmm, of all the terms I would use to describe this movie, chick flick isn't one of them. Guess that just shows how we all view things in different ways.
Good movie, didn't have a clue what it was supposed to be about when I saw it so it had no expectations to live up to. Amazing opening scene!

Yes, that opening scene was great. Gives you a little taste of how scary it would be to be in a tsunami. I think the movie got the "chick flick" tag because Clint referred to it that way. The term just means the film is probably more appealing to the ladies than the men. You know, no bullets or explosions.

The Road. Another in my favorite genre, dark and bleak. A father and son try to survive amongst the thieves and cannibals after the world has pretty much been destroyed. Robert Duvall is amazing in his small role.

I watched this in the cinema when it was released, amazing movie and great performances, especially from Viggo.
I was impressed by how closely they followed the original story, as we all know how Hollywood likes to screw with those.

The last movie I watched was one I DVR'd, and it was "Eat, Pray, Love." It was good - not wonderful, but good.
The last movie I went to a theater to watch was "Gnomeo and Juliet," with my 10-year-old, and I did it with very low expectations (which helped).
I want to see "Bridesmaids" and "The Hangover II," but will probably have to wait until I can rent them and watch after daughter's bedtime. :D

I recently re-watched Waterworld for the first time in a couple of years. I guess the third watching is the charm for this movie in my case. I actually thought, "this movie is not as crummy as I remember it." It was actually pretty good. It's like Mad Max and Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior only on water and with much better special effects. I love the Mad Max movies and now I've finally come to like Waterworld. Kevin Costner is good as the travelling stranger and Dennis Hopper is perfect as the evil and slightly cheesy Deacon of the Deez.

Re-watched David Lynch's Mulholland Drive again (making this viewing about number 8 or 9). I absolutely LOVE this movie!! Even after seeing it this many times, there are no false notes in it at all! The acting is fantastic (Naomi Watts is stellar in it, yes, the first 15 minutes that she's on screen is somewhat cheesy, but she's SUPPOSED to be). The cinematography is amazing. The music is otherwordly. If you haven't seen this film, seek it out and be amazed. Be forewarned- there are NO chapter breaks in it as Lynch wants you to become immersed in this world. (And, just try to come up with a theory on what it is supposed to be about- is it a ghost story? is it the replaying of scenes from a woman's life in the last few seconds before she dies? is it a wild ride inside the mind of a schitzophrenic? is it a revenge story?) Can't really tell ya!:eek2::biggrin2::love:

Watched a foreign film (from Czech Republic, I think) called Little Otik. It was...weird. It's about a married couple that can't have a baby, so the husband, while chopping down a tree, sees some roots that resemble a baby and gives it to his wife. She takes it very seriously to his dismay...starts this whole charade that she gives birth to it, breast feeds the thing, etc. It comes to life, and starts eating people. Some bizarre stop motion in it. Just overall strange, though not necessarily bad. I've got mixed feeling on it.

The Return of the Living Dead (1985) - This movie is so cheesy and fun. You don't need to bring your brain for this movie because it might get eaten. This is not a sequel to Night of the Living Dead or any of Romero's work; it's something completely different. There are sequels to The Return of the Living Dead, but I strongly suggest you don't venture past The Return of the Living Dead III unless you are just a fan of really bad movies.
Phantasm/Phantasm II/Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead/Phantasm IV: Oblivion - I love the Phantasm series, but no matter how many times I watch all the movies I still can't figure out what the heck is going on. Each sequel provides few answers and poses even more questions. Or at least it seems that way. But all the brain-scratching is worth it because the Tall Man might turn me into a zombie if I say otherwise. There really needs to be a fifth movie that will provide some sort of closure.

Really? Saw the trailer for this last night and it looked awful. I actually turned to my friend and said "I am not coming to see that!"...as it looked like her type of movie. I'd probably give it a shot on TV, but wouldn't spend money to see it. Glad you enjoyed it, though.

The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) - This is a fantastic movie depicting the lives of three WWII veterans as they try to readjust to civilian life. The most fantastic performance in this movie in my opinion is given by Harold Russell. Harold Russell lost his hands in 1944 during a training exercise when some TNT exploded in his hands and he had to have hooks to replace his hands. So the hooks in the movie were real. They were not special effects.
A Bridge Too Far (1977) - This movie, in the tradition of The Longest Day (1962), has some heavy star power. James Caan, Anthony Hopkins, Michael Caine, Sean Connery (who was also in The Longest Day as a different character), and so on. A very good movie about a failed Allies mission. Just don't watch it if you don't have four hours to kill because it very long.

Hangover II - I did not like it. Not very creative and too many potty mouth jokes with no style. I was a bit embarrassed for the audience actually. It does not matter how stupid the potty mouth joke is, they would laugh like crazy as long as some private part or bodily function was mentioned.
Also, it was too dark and fast paced. Like they mashed up The transporter and the original Hangover. Strange cinematography choices for a comedy too.

Watched Hereafter last night. Directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Matt damon. It's the one where Damon plays a psychic. I was actually surprised at how well Eastwood handled the subject matter. All of the actor's did a fantastic job too. It starts out with a tsunami (literally) that will take your breath away. Eastwood deftly handles three different story lines and weaves them together in a very satisfying ending. Good, good movie.

Open Range (2003) - A great western starring Robert Duvall, Kevin Costner, and Annette Benning. I would rank this movie in my top fifteen favorite westerns and I've seen quite a few of them. Kevin Costner does a fantastic job directing and playing the part of Charley Waite. Robert Duvall is fantastic, too. The Aviator (2004) - Martin Scorsese is one of my all-time favorite directors. If he made a movie based off the phone book I would probably watch it (but only if Robert De Niro was in it ). So I may sound really biased (and I probably am), but I think this film is fabulous. It details the life of Howard Hughes from the 1920's to the mid-1940's. Leonardo DiCaprio (in his second of four Scorsese movies so far) shines as Howard Hughes. Kate Beckinsale plays Ava Gardner and Cate Blanchett (in an Oscar-winning performance) plays Katherine Hepburn. Not a bad cast at all.

Watched Turner Classic Movies last night when they were cranking out the creature features. Them! (1954), Cosmic Monsters (aka Strange World of Planet X) (1958), and Tarantula (1955). Them! (which featured the late James Arness as Robert Graham and a brief appearance by a young guy named Leonard Nimoy as an Air Force Sergeant) is one of my favorites and so is Tarantula, but not so much for Cosmic Monsters. Cosmic Monsters just really doesn't compare to the other two.

The Faculty - Robert Rodriguez directed this tale of aliens taking over a high school. An Invasion of the Body Snatchers for high schoolers. We watched five this weekend:
Super 8: Brilliant. Elle Fanning is spectacular and the kids are all good. If you like Stand By Me/The Body + ET/Close Encounters
Midnight in Paris: I'm not a big Woody Allen fan but Owen Wilson owns this romantic, nostalgic film
True Grit: I've never seen the original, but it's hard to imagine John Wayne being better than Jeff Bridges, who lets himself be gritty and grimy and gruff
Bitter/Sweet: Funny romantic east (Thailand) meets west (Seattle) in a film about coffee
Love and Other Drugs: We thought this would be campy and corny but it's quite a good romantic film. Could have done without the younger brother's character. The trailers did not allude to illness at all, and that's really the pivot of the film.

The Return of the Vampire with Bela Lugosi. One of my favorite golden oldies. It's on On Demand so I've actually watched it about 3 times in the last week.
You got Bela Lugosi; WWII London, grave diggers, a really lame werewolfish servant who's under a mind control spell and Dr. Lady Insley, what's not to love?

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) - I thought this movie was really good. Of course I had my problems with it, but I loved the fact a Sabretooth got the much-needed screen time he deserved. Sabretooth is my favorite Marvel villain and the first X-Men movie in no way did any justice to the Wolverine/Sabretooth rivalry. Liev Schreiber was great in this movie. It was nice to see Gambit finally make an appearance in the X-Men series, too. Now I really need to see X-Men: First Class.

The King's Speech - excellent. Tells the story of King George VI trying to overcome his speech impediment with all of the pre WWII turmoil going on around him. It's a fascinating glimpse at King George but also of the chaotic times and the extremely odd story of King Edward stepping down.

Space Jam (1996) - Watched this movie over the weekend for the first time in quite a while. A retired Michael Jordan is enlisted by the Looney Tunes to compete in a high-stakes basketball game against the evil morons from Moron Mountain. That's the plot in a nutshell. Danny DeVito voices the evil leader of Moron Mountain, Wayne Knight plays Michael Jordan's bumbling assistant, and Bill Murray makes an appearance as himself and pretty much steals the movie. It's a weird movie, but it kind of works. I like it. :) Although I think Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003) is probably the better movie.

Although I was an avid Walker Percy Movie Goer, in all kinds of ways, it has been a time since I've seen a movie. That one from that fat slob, what's his face? Michael Moore? Farhenheit whatever? I think that was the last theatre movie I'd seen. But they ran "I am Legend" w/Will Smith this weekend and I happened to be flipping channels at the right time, so I watched.
I'd seen "The Omega Man" w/Charleston Heston, yay, all those years ago...
And I think both are good takes on Matheson's story. I liked how they played w/the idea that...I forget the character's name...sue me...that Will Smith played....played w/the idea that he loses his mind, or is losing it. That seems a fair...extension...for what is happening. Like, when he sees the dummy standing there...the...zombies/vampires...having set some sort of boobie-trap....but....THAT...did not play well w/his previous evaluation...(I like how he played the scientist, recording his findings...but he records his take on the....zombie/vampire....that dares the light, and attacks him)....So....the same ones what are losing their humanity, by...daring the light...also have the wit and wherewithal to set that boobie trap.
Naw. Don't buy it. But still, good take. Matheson did not have that...or, he had a different take in his story.
I liked hos they used the shepherd and play back scenes from "before" so you learn how it is that he came to that point.
The deer hunting? Naw. No can do. I had problems w/the speed...speed of the car he was driving, the speed of the animal.
The best part, I thought, was him losing it after seeing the dummy standing at the intersection...he loses it and he almost lost the whole deal. That was nice.

I went and saw "Super 8" the other day, and although it wasn't the best movie I've ever seen, it was a fun film. It was a monster movie that was more concerned with character relationships than the monster (where have we seen stories like that before?). Fun summer movie.

Let Me In - If you've ever seen "Let the Right One In" this is the American remake. Normally I hate this kind of thing (Quarantine-[rec]; A Tale of Two Sisters-The Uninvited; etc) but in this case, not only does the remake differ enough from the original to offer a different feel (and, imho a VERY different atmosphere), it's actually a GOOD movie. 4 outta 5.

The Thing from another World (1951) - A classic. I like Carpenter's version more, but the original is almost as good.
Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown (2008) - This is a documentary for people who don't know much about Lovecraft other than Cthulhu. John Carpenter, Neil Gaiman, and a few others are on hand to pay homage to the man and discuss his works. Most Mythos fans probably already know everything about Lovecraft and the Mythos so there isn't much new to them. If you've never read Lovecraft you might want read a few of his stories (http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/) and then watch this documentary.
Casino Royale (2006) - I suppose this might be the Batman Begins of the Bond franchise. I think it's fantastic, but I admit it's weird seeing a prequel that isn't really a prequel. I do hope Daniel Craig works out as Bond. I haven't seen Quantum of Solace yet, but I've heard it wasn't that great. Still, I hope Bond can keep going with Craig because I'd hate to think that Pierce Brosnan got ousted out of the Bond role for nothing.

I watched a bunch of movies over the weekend.
The Fighter - great movie, but predictable. It's the performances of the actors involved that elevate this
above the normal sports flicks...at least for me.
Fatal Instinct - a spoof on the erotic thrillers of the early nineties. Terrible movie, but it had its moments.
Larger than Life - love me some Billy Murray, but this movie sucked.
Guarding Tess - boring, not at all as funny as I'd expected.
Tapeheads - starring Tim Robbins and John Cusack, this was my least favorite movie I watched this weekend.
My Bloody Valentine 3D - starts off very promising, but just ends up the usual horror fare, with lame actors and a lame ending.
Night of the Comet - decent eighties horror flick, some interesting scifi aspects, but overall left me disappointed. I'd heard good things. Oh well.
Tideland - Terry Gilliam flick starring Jeff Bridges. This was a weird, morbid thing, and I still don't know if I liked it or not. It was definitely upsetting.
Anyway, I think that's all of them. I actually didn't sit home all weekend watching movies, just Friday night and then Sunday afternoon. Saturday I climbed Mt Monadnock (which really sucked), and then went swimming.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. It was the only HP movie I saw in the cinema, so, it may be the reason why I loved it so much. But I really found it to be brilliant, I guess now it's one of my favorite movies.

Current TV has been running a series on great documentaries and they ran one the other night called "One Day In September" that was about the 1972 Olympic terrorist kidnapping and killing of the Israeli athletes. I was only 11 years old when this happened but remembered quite a bit about it and remembered us all watching this tragedy as it unfolded on live TV. The heart of the documentary is the coverage of the day of the kidnappings but the documentary is also a very thorough look at the events leading to this and the aftermath. One of the things that is striking is how ill prepared the German police were for something like this and thinking of how differently this situation would be handled today.

It also makes me a little sad that the series is over, there will never be a new Harry Potter film. Oh well.

The Fabulous Baker Boys with Jeff and Beau Bridges. A seemingly simple story about a brother duo lounge act but it is more complex than that. The Jeff Bridges character is more talented than what he has settled for in life, which is playing in a lounge act with his far less talented brother. The story is about selling out, the relationship between art vs income and the dynamics of this brother relationship that gets even more strained when they add the steamy Michelle Pfeiffer as a singer to the act. All three actors are superb and Jeff Bridges, as always is great.

Inside Job - A documentary about the financial meltdown of 2008. This excellent film takes some very complicated subject matter and makes it understandable for the viewer. It shows how this had been building for 30 years through Democratic and Republican administrations. I think it is a very fair depiction of what happened. In the process of watching this, it will piss you off even more than you already were about the architects of the meltdown. There are some excellent interviews with some of the culprits who were blindsided by the intelligence of the interviewer and offer up some interesting answers. Everyone should see this.

As much as I hate to admit it, I've watched these and laughed like a fool too. It's like having a front row seat to the decline of Western Civilization.
Reminds me of a story of my Grandmother back when everyone was starting to get movie channels on cable. My grandparents had several movie channels and my grandmother always seemed to have trouble sleeping. So she got started watching the movie channels in the middle of the night and some of the racier stuff was always on late at night. One day she was telling everyone about one of these "disgusting" movies she had seen on late night cable and she was talking about how bad it was. My grandfather pipes and and says, "well, why in the hell did you keep watching it?" She said, "I just wanted to see how bad it could get."

I saw The Help this weekend. I thought it was really well done and enjoyed it thoroughly. Its always refreshing to see a "real" movie.
I must say that I have never been so embarrassed to be a white person in my life. It hits hard on the emotions. I can only imagine what white woman must feel like when they leave the theater. Not only were they portrayed as some kind of round about racists, but mean spirited too.
The chocolate pie thing is outrageous! :eek2: :barf:
I highly recommend this film to both men and woman. But it *is*a "chick flick", so if that's not your thing, steer clear.

I saw it The Help this past weekend, too, Brian. I'm with you: I was embarrassed to be white. I've read that some in the African-American community feel that the maids weren't depicted correctly somehow. I felt that they were presented respectfully, as human beings with dignity. I suppose it's not my place to insist that I'm right about it, though. I can just say that, as a film-goer, I loved those women. I felt their strength, their fear, their love, their doubt... they were full-realized human beings. Isn't that what they are supposed to be - characters rather than caricatures?
Oh, and if Viola Davis doesn't get an Oscar nomination I will be very put out.

Went to see Fright Night in 3D last night with my daughter. It was pretty good. Colin Farrel did a good vampire. Chris Sarandon, who played the vamp in the original, did a cameo. But the best thing was David Tennant. In leather. And shirtless. You ladies know what I'm lying down, here :wink2:

Watched some crappy horror flicks.
Zombie High - bad, bad movie from the eighties, starring Virginia Madsen.
The Return of the Living Dead Part 3 - not as terrible as I thought it would be. Some campy acting, but enjoyable.
The Reef - a supposed true story of some Australians swimming in the ocean when their boat sinks. Everyone gets eaten by a great white. The scenes with the shark are cool, there's some intense attacks, but the pacing of the movie was slow. Still, it was well-made.

I watched Wolf Creek - A pretty good Australian horror flick. Australia has vast areas of isolation and a movie like this where people are cut off from all communication is believable and works very well set in the outback.
Also, Day Of The Dead (remake) - Not as good as Romero but not too bad. The zombies are a little too acrobatic in this.

Funny, I just saw those two movies over the weekend, too! I thought "The Switch" was going to be more of a romantic comedy, but I was actually pleasantly surprised that it wasn't. The "switch" scene cracked me up (including Diane Sawyer!). The little boy was cute, without being annoying - an impressive feat in movies nowadays.
"My Soul to Take" was soooo damn dorky! I watched it late at night - hoping to be scared - and was not scared at all. The only thing scary about it was the title - which I thought was a good one! Even the killings were pretty damn unimaginative.
Sure wish there could be a scary movie that would actually scare me . . .

The last movie I saw in the theater was "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." It was awesome; highly recommended!
The last couple newish movies I saw at home (among those I'd never seen before) were the Australian "found footage" horror film, "The Tunnel," which was pretty good (I really like the "found footage" sub-genre, but this movie is probably not for everyone), and the American remake (I've never seen the Swedish original) of "Let Me In." Stephen King calls that "the best American horror film in the last 20 years," and while I'm not sure I precisely agree with that statement, he's definitely not far off. Certainly one of the better horror movies of all time.

I watched MIRANDA (1949) starring the lovely Glynis Johns as the mermaid that all the guys around are in love with. Actually a pretty weird flick. See, this married doctor fella finds her half dead and nurses her back to health, keeping her in his house under the pretense that she's an invalid (and is carried everywhere she goes--no legs, you see, only a tail). She sleeps nights in the bathtub and eats raw fish sandwiches. Every guy that comes in contact with her falls for her, due in part to Miranda's constant flirtation with them. But I can understand--Glynis Johns was MONDO hot back then, with that sultry, kittenish voice. Anyhoo, a couple guys break off their engagements in order to propose to the fish-woman, and even the doctor begins an extra marital affair with Miranda, hiding said affair from his loyal and equally lovely wife. His wife ends up figuring out that Miranda is a mermaid (simply by seeing an advertisement of a mermaid in a magazine, reading an encyclopdeia, and putting two and two together [?]), and she even figures out that her husband has the hots for this aquatic tart, but she never gets angry about it, she just accepts it with a shrug, "Oh, boys will be boys". Heh, one part cracked me up--dig this, the housekeeper (whose beau ALSO has the hots for Miranda) discusses Miranda's weird habits with the doctors wife. She says, "And going through her dresser, I discovered Miranda never wears panties!" To which the doctors wife replies, "I knew there was something fishy about her!" HAH! Racey stuff for a movie made in the forties, eh?
So, at the end, realizing that she's messing up everyone's lives, Miranda leaps in the sea to return to her home. She made mention of her home in Cornwall, where she must be in the spring. The last shot shows Miranda the mermaid in her natural habitat, bouncing a little baby mermaid on her knee! Ooops, looks like somebody knocked the fish-girl up! But is that even possible?
Right afterward, TCM aired MAD ABOUT MEN, the sequel to Miranda. This one was in color. Didn't watch it...there's something fishy about the whole mess.
Oh...uh, SPOILER ALERT. A little late, sorry.

We Are Marshall (2006) - This was a tough movie for me to watch. It starts with the 1970 plane crash that killed pretty much destroyed the football program by killing the football team, coaches, and trainers. Then the movie deals with the school trying to rebuild the football program with the help from new head coach Jack Lengyel (portrayed by Matthew McConaughey) and deal with the town's reluctance to move forward. There are a few historical inaccuracies, but that doesn't keep me from thinking highly of the movie. Considering the subject matter, it'll certainly make you choke up at times so you might need a box of tissues.

Rec 2- pure ****.
No way, that movie was excellent. I'm not sure why you didn't like it, but over at IMDB, all the Richard Dawkins fan boys are upset because there's a super-natural angle, and they felt betrayed because they wanted a purely materialist explanation for the zombie phenomenon, as the first movie hinted at. I really don't understand this thing where any movie that has a super-natural theme now gets assailed by mobs of radical Atheists who claim its impossible for them to enjoy movies "about things that aren't real." I'm no longer an Atheist, but I was one for most of my life, and I never felt like my worldview was being threatened by super-natural horror. Just as now that I'm a Christian, some other Christians think its strange I still enjoy horror fiction & movies. Although I frankly don't see any contradiction, in either case. I have yet to receive a satisfactory explanation why I should have ever felt bothered by super-natural fiction, either as an Atheist, or as a Christian.
Like I said, I'm not sure why you disliked "[REC] 2," but so far, every single person I've encountered who had a strongly negative reaction towards it, had this weird, Atheist-activism oriented reason for hating it. I hope you hate it for some other reason, because the reason people over at IMDB all seem to have, is really, really stupid. I've even had people tell me I shouldn't read Stephen King books, because Stephen King is a Democrat! That's what Atheists who are offended by "[REC] 2" remind me of. There's something wrong with this society, where everyone's turning into a sort of fanatic who's expected to dislike anyone or anything that deviates from their beliefs (Orson Scott Card has written about that in his "Empire" novels, so its not just me). And before the 1990s, it wasn't like that. But something tells me, we ain't going back. We're just going to keep getting more and more alienated from each other, until a freakin' civil war erupts over some stark difference of opinion about some moral and/or political question. So yeah, I think its fair to say I hope you disliked this movie for some other reason altogether, LOL!
(I got a little wound up there, it seems...tell me you just didn't like the acting, or whatever...please!)
Jake Featherston

Speaking of "pure ****," I've got a movie that would make almost anyone regard "[REC] 2" as a masterpiece, by comparison. A few hours ago, I made the mistake of watching the 2010 horror film called "The Shrine." Now THAT movie is pure garbage. Its just bad on nearly every level. And Blue Valentine, starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. It was made well, great acting and directing, and the film was scored by Grizzly Bear, which is cool, but it is one of the most miserable films I have seen in a long, long time. When the movie ended (finally) there was an audible gasp in the audience.( A gasp of what-the-heck! Is that all there is?) Including mine. As my friend and I were getting up to leave I said that the movie would be something I would have expected from a basic cable channel. Or maybe SyFy. Last night I watched the 1981 film, "Possession," starring Isabel Adjani and Sam Neill.
Wow. My appreciation for weird, horrific movies is pretty much emblematic of my personality, but dang, this one was almost too much. I'm not even going to recommend seeing it, beyond noting that if you wish to see some of the most disturbing images of esoteric terror in the history of cinema, then watch this film. For the first 45-50 minutes, I wasn't even convinced it really was a horror movie (it just seems like a rather unpleasant movie about a couple getting a divorce), but then all of a sudden, it shifted gears in a major way. I might have turned it off if it wasn't for the fact that I just like looking at Isabel Adjani, but I'm glad I suck with with. Once I was past the one-hour mark, developments had taken place that had me glued to the screen.
It actually reminds me of another Isabel Adjani film ie., Roman Polanski's 1976 film "The Tenant." If you liked "The Tenant," you'll probably like this too. And if you didn't, then you'd probably be better off skipping this one.

Friends with benefits - raunchy romcom with decent script and heart
Colombiana - OK revenge action thriller

Endless Bummer, a low budget surfer flick shot in Ventura. It's got a good party scene, a great boob shot and a surprisingly good ending - dude, like way meaningful, man... - that I never saw coming and kinda stuck with me.
Peace.

I watched Soul Surfer with my girls. I have to say, Bethany Hamilton is one courageous, determined girl.

Next Day Air (comedy-suspense flick from 2009, madness ensues when a shipment of drugs are delivered to the wrong address)
Basic (John Travolta/Samuel L Jackson action movie from 2003 that flopped & never gets talked about, I didn't think it was that bad)
Terminator 2 (best movie Ahnold was ever in, best movie James Cameron ever made, also greatest example of a sequel being better than the original)

Howl starring James Franco as Allen Ginsberg. Oh man, great flick. Ginsberg had guts and vision. Franco did a superb job capturing his speech and mannerisms.

Terminator 2 (best movie Ahnold was ever in, best movie James Cameron ever made, also greatest example of a sequel being better than the original)I 100% disagree, in fact, I think this movie was the direct cause of the downfall of James Cameron.
He slapped together a cheesy action movie with stereotypical, cardboard cutout characters, shined it up real nice, put cutting-edge effects in it and it was eaten up like crazy.
Watching Eddie Furlong teach a TERMINATOR how to be "cool" by throwing around phrases that nobody EVER used (except when they thought this movie was cool) is cringe-worthy after watching the MASTERPIECE that is the first Terminator film. Cameron replaced terror with action, suspense with chase sequences, and an overwhelming sense of realistic dread with slick effects. All downgrades.

Hi.First time poster.
I recently saw"Don't Be Afraid of the Dark." It was a remake of the movie that came out in '74,I believe, for TV. I enjoyed the first movie because the little creatures were basically heard and not seen.I loved the way they giggled and whispered...built up some delicious tension. The re-make had Guillermo del Toro handprint all over it,which is a good thing,in my opinion. The actors were quite good, especially the little girl. The CGI creatures were pretty horrifying, but because they were so visible,so often,I didn't get the rush of terror that I love so much!! I would give it 4 stars out of 5.

I saw three movies during this weekend. First one was Buried not my favorite. The second one was Sex and the City 2 much better then the first movie. And my third one was SAW the final chapter. Good that this was the last SAW movie (or I hope). I don't like when they torture and kill people. But I had to see it anyway.

Hi, welcome to the board! Keep posting! I hadn't heard of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark or its original. Thanx for letting me know! I just finished watching Picnic (1955), a title which I'd always avoided due to ignorant, preconceived notions. The movie was fantastic, great writing, great casting, great acting, great everything.
Watched Contagion. Sorely disappointed. An hour into the movie I asked my friend, 'Shouldn't something exciting, scary, something, be happening by now?' When the movie ended (finally) there was an audible gasp in the audience.( A gasp of what-the-heck! Is that all there is?) Including mine. As my friend and I were getting up to leave I said that the movie would be something I would have expected from a basic cable channel. Or maybe SyFy. The three people who were sitting in the row in front of us overheard my comment and agreed with my comments. Bummer.
JMOThanx, Siggy, for the warning. I had looked forward to Contagion, but I take your word.

I saw Something Borrowed, which was astonishingly bad (RedBox rental - the bank wouldn't approve my loan to see a movie at the theater).

i watched FRIGHTNIGHT 3D the other night - oh what a disappointment. colin farell was as wooden as the stake that went through his heart. reminded me of Jim carey in the cable guy. David tennent done his best > Cap'n Jack sparrow but ended up a rather camp russel brand. he was the best thing in the film , but i still saw dr who in everything he done. i recommend walking in from one of the other films in the multiplex and catching the last 30 minutes for free rather than paying to watch this crud!!!- oh yeh the side kick in kick a$$- Mclovin??? he plays the same part he always plays - what is he 25 26 playing a college geek - again!!!!

I saw Drive, which is astonishingly good.
IMO...Drive is the best film since Inception. I loved it. Totally out of left field too. Cliff Martinez soundtrack is haunting and intoxicating. Cinematography outstanding. Even Albert Brooks as a hardcore gangster worked extremely well. - Highly recommended.
I offer a bit of a warning regarding the escalating violence. It gets pretty out of hand. Not for the faint of heart.:eek2:

The Replacement Killers (for an action flick this was enjoyable, not to mention the beautiful Ms. Mira Sorvino)
Ransom (from 1996 this may be Ron Howards best film, Gary Sinise is a beast as the villian, Mel Gibson is a dbag but this is easily his best performance ever)

The Catch-up - crude, coarse, rude, and a lot funnier than I expected
30: Minutes Or Less - entertaining, but not a comedy (a bit like Fargo: crime drama with comedic overtones)
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy - very dense, hard to follow: quality, but hard work
Warrior - decent family drama based round cage fighting
