We are always being shown bad things on the news and hearing bad things on the radio. I know there are acts of kindness being done out there. When was your last experience or do you remember one you'd like to pass on?
I'll start: Thank-you goes out to Drawn to Ka-tet for sending books. She doesn't know me yet she didn't hesitate to do this kind deed. A very trusting person(Yes the M.-order is in the mail!) :y:

I just found out that the kinda scary looking bus aide for my daughter's special needs bus asks my daughter , every morning , how she is doing and what she had for breakfast. Just a few days ago my daughter started to go on and on about 'Mike' and how he always asks her how her breakfast was. She was very happy about the whole thing. She loves routine and this little routine helps make her mornings happy. I had no idea. I can't really explain why this makes me tear up but it just seems really sweet. It is 6:45 when she gets on the bus- goodness- he must get on that darn bus by 6:00 AM...I appreciate the gesture so much!!

Several years ago, i was walking down town and found a wallet. Now have you ever been asked the question if you found a wallet with money in it what would you do? Of course being the good Christian that i am i called the fellow up and told him i found his wallet. It turns out he was in a wheelchair and was quite distraught over losing it. I'm glad i could help him out. I'm hoping it's one pt. towards opening the pearly gates.
I just thought it is nice to hear acts of good once in a while.:smile2:

I have a favorite I'd like to share. Actually, I wish everybody would give this a try, just so more folks could "receive".
I call this, "BLESSED BUCKS. I take two or three one dollar bills and write on them, "May you be blessed with Health, Wealth and Joy!". Then I hide them somewhere where someone will find it. Great places are inside a newspaper in the JOB SEARCH section or in a public restroom, taped to the stall door....or (I carry a glue stick around with me) stuck to the back of a box of Pampers in a grocery store.
The point of this is, I figure....it would BLOW my mind if I happened to be the finder of one of these....so, the next best thing is being the provider for somebody else. I HAVE TO IMAGINE THAT FINDING ONE OF THESE WOULD BE A RUSH. iMAGINE BEING DEPRESSED AND LOOKING FOR A JOB...YOU SPEND YOU LAST QUARTER ON A PAPER, OPEM IT UP AMD THERE IN jOB sEARCH IS A real DOLLAR BILL WITH A BLESSING ON IT? wOULDNT YOUR JAW DROP AND YOOUR MOOD lift? i'd probably call everybody I know and say, "You wont believe what happened to me today!"
tHE REALLY FUNNY THING IS, RIGHT AFTER i STARTED DOING THIS, MANY YEARS AGO, iVE HAD PRETTY MONEY LUCK. kARMA, i GUESS.
mY ONLY RULE IS, never STICK AROUND TO SEE WHO FINDS IT.
a DOLLAR IS ONLY A DOLLAR AND WONT EVEN BUY A CUP OF COFFEE ANYMORE. bUT IT SEEMS TO ME THE JOY OF FINDING ONE IS way MORE THAN A DOLLAR'S WORTH OF jOY.
PLUS, IT'S REALLY FUN TO THINK UP PLACES TO HIDE THE bUCKS. oNCE i WAS IN A GROCERY STORE HIDING THREE ONE DOLLAR BILLS WHEN i noticed the assistant manager was following me, evidently thinking my furtive behavior was suspicious. I had just finished gluing a bill to the back of a box of Hamburger Helper when he politely asked to look inside my shoulder bag. I said, "sure, but this isnt what you think...."
He was so apologetic and embarrassed when there was no shoplifted merchandise in my bag, I felt sorry for him!

What you have stated is sad, but true.
In my lifetime I have seen so many acts of kindness (too many to list here). But none have made the news.
God has truly blessed me with good friends and surrounded me with wonderful people (many here on this site).
Life is good.

That is a wonderful idea TL2K, can you imagine someone finding a bill when they really needed it. My problem here in Canada is we now have coins, 1,2 $ so if i do it , it will have to be with a 5 dollar bill. So, i probably won't be doing it every other day.:smile2:

I raise money every year for those less fortunate. It is the best thing I do.
And in doing that, I see acts of kindness the entire time. Good people are all over the place but it's just like what was stated at the beginning...they don't make news.

Matticus, Darkwriter, i hear ya, I wonder what ever happened to Oprah's pass it on? Does anyone remember several years ago a movie came out and the theme was to do a good deed and it was called pass it on? I seem to remember her having several show's dealing with the subject of passing on acts of kindness. (?)

Don't know about Oprah as I don't watch her show, but I think the movie you're talking about was titled Pay it Forward and had Haley Joel Osment in it.

Lots of really nice people on this site, Just typing in thinking of you in your time of need is an act of kindness in my books. Strangers being nice to one another , rare indeed.

I think the people that do the nicest things are the ones that are the most deserving themselves. And then they don't want any recognition for their acts.

I used to pick up hitch-hikers and take them as far as I could, sometimes give them money. I don't drive much anymore or I still would. And I like to bake pies for my neighbors (does that count? cookies and fudge at Christmas time...).
One of the nicest things someone's done for me... When I started a new job a few years ago, one of the ladies training me gave me money to "help makes ends meet" until I got established. She wouldn't take no for an answer. I paid her back that Christmas but have always remembered her kindness. We'd never met before. We didn't even work at the same location. And she had the reputation of being cold and gruff but really she was a great person.

Last year, a friend of mine was going through a terrible divorce. She lived here with us for about 6 months until she could get on her feet.
Although it was stressful at times having someone else in the house, it was really neat, too, because I got to see how kind people can be. We would often find bags on our front porch with goodies in there for her. Sometimes there were gift cards, but mostly it was just "thinking of you" stuff, cookies, magazines, little things of nail polish, etc.
Her life was so hard at the time, and finding these little bags (most of which didn't cost more than a few bucks to put together) would perk her up and keep her happy for days. It was so good for her to see that people cared about her! None of the bags ever said who they were from. Sometimes we had an idea from handwriting, but mostly it was a mystery. I think it was probably quite a few different people from church and the homeschooling community.
I paid attention to that, and now when I know someone's having a rough time I will try to drop them a line or sneak a fun little package onto their porch. :)

I am poor, so I cannot give money to those in need. I would return a wallet, or anything you lost. I believe I am adding to my good karma by being nice to people in general - by speaking with kindness and compassion to those who need it, by making you laugh whenever I can, and by giving you a hug (or even just a touch) when you need it. This is just my nature. Acts of kindness need not be grand gestures. Sometimes a smile shared with a stranger can cause a ripple effect that touches the lives of many others.

I try to live my life in doing what I can for others, whenever I can.
I've always believed if people would help those beside them if just a little, the world would be a much better place.
Do what you can for "the other person". Even something small.
Pay it forward and you keep moving forward.

I recently hired a from Africa to work as a health tech at the facility were I am employed. She has only been in the United states for a year and has no family or friends other than her brother. She was not getting along with her brother and she moved out of his house with only the clothes on her back and her 6 year old daugther. One day during a conversation she mentioned that her daughter loved to watch american cartoons and that one day she hoped to get her a tv. A few days later I got a couple of my friends from work to help me take my giant 27 in televison to this women. (It was not a plasma by anymeans and we have tv's in almost every room of my house)She was very greatful and I must admit it made me feel good to help someone in need in these troubled times.

so here's a funny one for you. i live about 10 minutes out of san francisco and every time i cross the bay bridge on the way in to the city i always pay for the person behind me in line for the toll bridge. this is a tradition taught to me years ago by my dad and i do it every time i cross a toll bridge. the only rule is that you have to pay for them and then go like hell so they can't catch up and say thank you. it's totally fun but kinda dangerous at the same time, anyone who's ever crossed the bay bridge can attest to that. anyhow, last time i went to the city i paid for both tolls and did my best steve mcqueen and damn near sideswiped a car. i got my self straightened out and noticed that my near miss was no ordinary car. it had a very distinct black and white paintjob and some odd lights attached to the roof. the driver looked quite stern and actually had, if you'll believe it a shotgun jutting up from the floorboard. alright, it was a cop. so here i am with my eyes bugged out of my head and every item from my visor and my dashboard spilled in my lap and wind plastered to my upper torso thinking i'm totally ska-rewed when i look over in time to see the cop mouth " a**hole!!". before i had time to even register this i hear tires screeching behind me and look in my rearview only to see the car who's toll i paid almost rearend me:eek2:. i don't ever expect any good karma from this game but it would be nice not to get killed or arrested in the process. in any case i made it into san francisco without further event and had a pretty good evening, as well as $28 parking ticket.

Terribilini , funny story, Smooth Operator, i agree with you, any act of kindness whether i be a prayer for a friend or someone you don't know is great. I pray for the health of my new friends here on SKMB and always for peace and good will. A little more of this would make the world a better place for all, you keep on being kind , a hug a smile goes a long way.
