Okay SKMB peeps....need some opinions and thoughts here..
I have talked to many members of the board on this one....
There seems to be a great interest in having a SKMB convention by and for the Sk board members...How cool would that be????

Please start throwing out ideas as to where, when, what you think would be fun for activities???? I know many of you have ideas about this....
Now would be the time to voice them.....I for one would be willing to be on a committee to help organize this.... :biggrin2:

Great idea! :biggrin2:

I think if we could hold it at the Stanley in Colorado that would be cool.

OMG!!! I love it!!! Hey, could MsMod be the honoree??? Could she bring a "surprise guest" with her!!! Ok. Now I'm starting to dream.

The when and where might be hard. I know for myself that my budget allows little for travel and time from work. Maybe if we shoot far enough ahead in scheduling, many people would be able to attend or maybe have a few locations?

Activities? uhmmmmm. How about making special awards for the ingenious posters here on our little site? Some of which could be very entertaining! Or, make it like a mystery theatre dinner? I don't know about anyone else but a whodunnit would get my rocks off. I don't know how to pull that one off though. Gotta go think some more.
I'll be back.

I think it is a good idea and would certainly have a lot of turnout. There are lots of activities I can think of offhand. Contact me via PM. If you are serious about holding such an event. Personally, I think if you do it, the location of the convention should be at some location that enhances the feel. To be perfectly honest, it should be held somewhere in Maine wherein so many of his books are set. Besides, why not send the money and tourism back to where it is much appreciated.

I love this idea! And Colorado is a lot closer to me than Maine so it might make it more possible for me to come. I would love to visit Maine though.:dunno:

We might have to wait for the economy to rebound a little though and that might take a while.:glare:

I was thinking that it might be best to try to set up an international meeting as well as one here in the states. That way it would hopefully make a meeting more realistic for those who couldn't make it to this side of the pond.

We could set up an account on a photo sharing site so that pictures of the event here as well as one over seas could be shared easily.

I'm in Canada so if it's in the States it's all the same to me. I agree with Robert Gray, Maine would be cool, just touring around and seeing where a lot the these stories spawned would be a treat for me.

Oooh yeah :) and I agree with rtj about Maine, and we could all stay at the Hotel at the End of the Road, in Castle Rock, we have to build this first, lol

Love the idea! I would LOVE to go to The Stanley in CO but can't afford it this year. I almost went back in '04 with the Skemers group but unforeseen circumstances occurred. I was very disappointed but also a LIL relieved as that place is supposed to be haunted!! Ghosts creep me out, man!

I think Bangor aka Derry would be the most logical place, but then that excludes people on the west coast(unless they can scrape together cash for plane fare). I second Ms.Darkside's idea about Ms. Mod being the honoree. ;)

We should definitely put together an 'ad hoc' committee. Will definitely keep an eye on this thread.

I am throwing out the Bangor idea, His house is there, and if we are very respectful, I'm sure we can see it from the street. No climbing the fence and yelling to the house, lol..

also at Betts books we can purchase collectible king of variable prices, and also get a map that shows the places that were the inspiration for books, i.e. the Barrens, etc..

It would be great to get together with all you!

Oh my god how much i would love that, the thought of going to Maine and meeting true king fans and ms mod would really be a dream come true for me, kings books have been such a break away from real life for me that ive really needed through the last 10 years since ive been reading his books that i would save as much as i can (from Ireland) just to pay for a ticket to pay tribute to him and all the happiness hes given me throughout the years. sorry im abit drunk writing this but honestly i would do anything to be there and meet all of you who love his work and are inspired by him

It does sound like an awesome idea, I would love to be able to attend something like this. Unfortunately for me, I'm pretty much stuck where I am from lack of funds, among a number of other things.
Maine would seem like the most logical answer as to where, but I'd also say somewhere in the Florida Keys would be a great location as well.
I too like the idea of a Whodunnit type of thing. Other ideas that are just off the top of my head would be some type of trivia games associated with the books, movies, and the man himself, maybe even invite the members to dress up as some of their favorite characters, ummm....maybe have a maze type thing through "Derry" or "CastleRock", have "Pennywise" handing out balloons, pet "Cujo", take a ride in "Christine"....that's about all I got at the moment.

I think this is a great idea Aggie. Maine or Colorado would be awesome. Boston too, and they have a great graveyard tour. Just sayin.....

There was talk of Atlanta when Ghost Brothers of Darkland County debuted there. I live in the south and I'm on a very tight budget. I think there should be 4-6 conventions across the country. It would be a lot easier to attend in Atlanta, Nashville, Knoxville or Birmingham.

I agree with everyone else that this is a great idea. Personally, I'm partial to Maine being on the East Coast myself. Multiple events will help alleviate "significant" travel for some. Whatever is decided, I would suggest we give folks plenty of time for planning. What with the economy as strong as it is, an SKMB convention might have to take the place of a summer vacation, for example. If it's set far enough in the future, might make it easier for some of us to make that decision.

And Aggie, I'll be happy to assist you in any way I can on an ad hoc committee. Let me know what I can do to help. :smile2:

It`s a wonderful idea, but I am not sure if I could atend to it.

Work, family, lack of money...

But, maybe if Staro and Eleese would go, I`d come along for the ride, since we live close to each other...

This would Rock! I can't imagine anything more fun than meeting a group of people that I chat with regularly, in a supposedly haunted hotel. Wooohooo! I am so at any US meeting. Put me in coach!:D

Hi,

We discussed this some time ago, but the logistics proved insuperable, and that's when we inaugurated the first Stephen King Day on 21st September 2007.

It'll be Stephen King Day 3 this year, so why not a number of coordinated events around the globe about that date?

Linked by live web-casts maybe?

Long days and pleasant nights

Just I note....I started two social groups concerning this subject....

The one that is open to all board members is SKMB CONVENTION....so we can toss around ideas w/out driving MsMod crazy!!!

The other one is Ad Hoc Committee...that one is private for "ad hoc" committee members....if you are interested in being in this committee..please PM me....thanks....

Hope this clarifies the confusion....

I certainly can't afford to travel very far. If we could have regional conventions, that would be better. MadameMack lives about two hours away from me, but I wonder if there are other members close by.
