Hi,

I'd read it in order, starting with Rage, personally.

Yes, Rage first. It is kinda scary how some of the things in that collection have come to pass in our reality...ie..school shootings, planes into buildings, it scares me about SK's new short story in JAS about a a-bomb going off in NY. SK said it is just a matter of time!:eek2:

I just picked this up too! I am reading it in order. I am almost finished with Rage. It has been quite disturbing so far; just the way I like it! A big slap in the face!:oo:

I've gotten my hands on 2 Bachman books and i'm trying to decide what to do with them. I'd like to raise some money by selling them and donate the money to the Haven Foundation. I'll have to see if MsMod, says this is okay first. Both in excellent condition.

Blaze, another Bachman book, has been published recently. I doubt it's in the collection you have, but it's worth picking up.

I've been checking Peddler's Mall for the Bachman Books, but I just don't seem to have any luck finding it.

I got lucky and got the Bachman Books in both paperback and hardback. I would start with Rage and read them in order, since it is your first time reading these books.

I was also lucky to get an original hardback of Thinner! (Before SK was admitting to being Richard Bachman.) The author's picture on the back flap just cracks me up!

I think it's a shame that the Bachman books often get overlooked by people. Out of his first few novels, I found Rage and The Long Walk the most interesting.

Long Walk is my favorite also! Long Walk was Sai Kings first wasn't it? I thought he wrote it as a junior in college. I guess Rage was published before it in the Bachman series.

I got that a while back from the library. The only ones I read were "The Long Walk" and "Rage". Only because they were the hardest to get a hold of. But read the whole thing, I mean, it is King after all.

There was 4 stories in the bacman books if i remember correctly. but i think that rage was taken out of the collection for some reason, too violent. i think i read that somewhere.

Start with first story and 2nd and so on.

Having just finished rereading The Bachman Books, I will definitely say that those four novels have held up incredibly well over the years. The writing is occasionally a little rough in some places, but in other places it's tremendous, and all four novels seem still to be eerily relevant.

Great stuff all around.

I am waiting for these four books to arrive at my local library. I am excited to get the chance to read these early works, to get (yet another) a glimpse of how SK has matured as a writer.

I love The Long Walk too, but I don't really think it matters what order you read them, as long as you read them all.

I picked up "The Long Walk" yesterday at the library. I am still waiting for the entire collection (Bachman Books) to arrive....but couldn't resist when I seen the solitary copy of LW. From all of the comments here, looks like I was right to grab it lol... Have to finish my 7 day fast read first.......if/when I get off of here. This board is like a favorite book, so hard to put down. Plus when I discuss books with my dear husband he's like "yeah yeah"! He likes to read textbooks and instruction manuals over fiction.....Sigh

I would like to read The Bachman Books, but I can only find them in mass market size. Any ideas where I can find any of the books in trade or hardcover in decent condition? I don't care if it's only one book at a time, I would just like to read them.

TheDarkTower.com has a fund raiser for Haven each year, you may want to think about donating them to that, easy way to do it.

The only hard cover of them is in the collection The Bachman Books.

They were orginally published in a small paperback mass market size. All but Rage (taken out of print by SK in 99 due to the school shootings in the US) are sitll in print as far as I know, but none of them were ever done in a full size hard back edition individually, unless they were from another country other then the US.

I was in a used bookstore over the weekend and found I a Richard Bachman book in hardcover!!!! It's called The Regulators. It was in such good condition that it almost looked brand new. I looked at the copyright, and it said 1996, so I am quite sure it was a reissue.

I have been waiting for the Bachman books from my library since November. I finally found out that the person who had them has reported all 4 of them as LOST. I had hoped to read them but it looks like I won't get that chance. The only one in this series that our library has is The long walk. (which I have read)

Hi,

Amazon and E-bay usually have S/H PB copies available at very reasonable prices.

If you go down that route I'd check that it was an older copy including Rage.

Long days and pleasant nights

Quite disturbing, yes. But isn't it also quite interesting? If nothing else, Rage is definitely provocative. :biggrin2:
