Have you seen the pictures and video of the Pacific Barreleye fish?

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/8972/barreleye1350.jpg

It's been known since the 1930's but only recently have scientists been able to have a specimen remain intact.

This is a great article on the fish with more picture and video. It is on the progressive website Daily Kos but since it's not political in nature it should be okay for everyone to follow the link ;)

I saw this on another board and the first time I looked at it, I thought it was a fake fish. I thought those lobe things in its head area were propellers! hahahah!

Isn't it amazing the new stuff that reveals itself to us? We don't know everything.

I thought it was fake, but I read the article and watched the video. it is not fake. There is a rumor that there is this animal that lives around the south pole. It tunnels until it is under a prey. It focuses its will and blood goes to a special organ on top of its head. This organ melts the ice and it kills the surprised prey. I wish I could remember more but it was time when I was a child. I saw the paper clipping my step mom had cut out to show me when I got home from school. It freaked me out

I wonder why it would evolve to have a clear head?

I guess that's something a lot of people wish for though! :P

I just heard on the Discovery Channel that only about 5% of the worlds' oceans have been explored! I wonder what else is out there we have not seen yet! :grinning:

very special animal...didn't surprise me we only found out about it now...it took science decades before they could take a picture of an okapi in the wild!OMG an okapi!that one even lives in the zoo!...but still nice what we find out about our planet.(like the still to discover giant squid, which lives in the deeps and has once actually flushed on lang once,a dead one that was)

Can you just imagine the creatures that one would find? Super giant squids,

these have been discovered already.Al we know is they live in the depths and some sort of whale hunts on them but we only have pictures of 1 and that was flushed to shore and was probably already dead for a long time.It had tentacles of about 20 meters, let me check how much that is in foot:d...about 65 feet.
Ow yes, maybe interesting to know is that the theory that life needs water and some other stuff to exist,is false. Some scientists have found some lifeforms here in earth that live in an environment which we used to think of as unlivable for organisms
