View Full Version : As Seen On TV

MadamMack started a thread lamenting her As Seen On TV Snuggie that she got for Christmas. LMAO
So I was wondering what you all have or want to have that you've seen on TV.
With great personal restraint I've resisted the urge to buy a ShamWow.
They're made in Germany you know! Great craftsmanship and not to be imitated.... wash rag towely thing?

So whatcha got?

I want the ShamWow too!

We actually bought the PureSleep mouthguard thingy for my husband. It kind of works...he still snores a little but not as bad and he doesn't stop breathing anymore.

I'm a sucker for informercials! Luckily I have resisted the urge to buy anything.... so far. I also wanted the ShamWow, and there was a kitchen gadget that would make omelets, sandwiches, and magically turn leftovers into YUM that I drooled over. My boyfriend's dad bought the supposedly magical Banjo Bait for the lakehouse, but alas the bass did NOT like them!

After watching my husband take a Mouse sander to his feet last year—I am NOT kidding—I would like to get him a Ped Egg. I don't want a Shamwow at all, although I did at first, but after a while I thought "How often do I have to soak up copious amounts of fluid?" and the answer was "Thankfully, quite rarely." But I DO want one of those Slap Chop things.

No, not the ab thing, the blonde working out on it!

I do have the aqua globes which work well enough.
My 6 year old seems to think I need the Buxton organizer. She says "you will never miss a call again and you can even find things blindfolded." I figure if I'm trying to find things in my purse while I'm blindfolded then I have bigger problems than needing a new purse.

I live pretty close to a 'As Seen on TV" store -yup- it sells all the stuff you see advertised. I bought a few things- I was so excited to see "magic putty" -I had so many things that needed fixing and hung and well, it was magic!:glare: It didn't work worth a darn. But, you know what worked- the 'super wall hooks' or something like that. They really do hold up a lot of weight -You win some lose some.

I have a clapper and a Ped Egg and furniture sliders. I've been this close to buying the Magic Bullet, but resisted.

And... I'VE NEVER BOUGHT A CHIA PET.

Oh - I also have a Turby Twist.

My daughter wants me to buy her a Bedazzler ("Tana says I can bedazzle old clothes to make them look new!").

Carpet sliders, yes- they do work. Saves the back when moving furniture. I even keep the smaller size one under furniture I move often to vacuum.

I didn't want to pay the rather steep price for one, and besides, they don't seem to get very good reviews overall, so I bought a Hamilton Beach personal blender for about $15. It does a bang up job; I use it daily at work and am very happy with it.

Also, I forgot, I do have the furniture sliders. Those things are awesome.

We found the aqua globes at Target, and they are ok. You have to dig out a whole to put them in, or else they get clogged up with mud. Oh, and cats are fascinated with them, or at least mine is.

Well, well, well. Ask me about anything, I'm sure we've bought it. Only, I don't order the crap off the TV ads. I wait for them to hit a Bed, Bath and Beyond.

I own or have had:

Magic Bullet (we love ours)
Jack LaLane Juicer (also great)
George Foreman Grill (another hit for us)

That Ab belt that you wear and it's supposed to electrocute your fatty gut? (Nope, didn't work) Part of the problem is, you have to get your Jaba the Hut ass up and go find the thing and then, once you do, you have to find the gel and once you find the gel, you put the gel crap on the electrodes and hit the switch like Dr. Frankenstein and guess what? It's not alive. Then it gets to the point the gut is so big, you can't fit the belt around it. This is not my gut we are talking about by the way.

The Topsy comby thingy thing that was supposed to help rat my thin hair up to make it cover my shiny scalp. I think I'm just gonna dye my hairs blue and do the combover thing.

NADs or, what was that stuff called, you know, the goop from Australia that's supposed to rip the hairs right out of my legs? Hurt. I had goop everywhere.
Oh, also did the Epilady which was a real joy.
Space bags -- those work pretty good.
Yes, have the carpet sliders and they are great.
I own the Turby Twist and never use the thing. I can't seem to ever find it and end up using it as a dust rag when I do.
I have this chopper thing that opens and shuts like a book, that one.
We own the omelet maker and a bacon thing too. They work okay.

Good God. This is getting sadder and sadder by the minute. I am a huge sucker.

As soon as I come across and infomercial, I switch the channel as soon as I can. I hate infomercials. I've never ordered anything off TV and I never will. I don't care how good it looks.

I want to buy it from a store, so I can bring it back if something goes wrong. Who knows where half of these infomercial people will be in a week from now. Probably doing political commentary.

Oops, I forgot about the rotisserie. We have one of those too, but we didn't buy it; my husband's parents bought it for us. I remember thinking at the time, "I'll never use this dang thing," but once I experienced the wonders of freshly rotisseried (Don't underline that in red, dammit, Firefox. I just bought those bra adjusting plastic thingies. Damn, I don't have the box right here. Anyway, they really work. What I got them for was, over time, my bras will loosen, no matter how much I adjust the strap--and the bras are still nice. They aren't at the point of needing to be tossed. So, I got those things and they really do perk things back in place. Which is such relief. Treading on my own tata's was getting a bit tiresome.

Thought of you and this post last night, MM, when I saw Billy Mays and some other guy advertising for a new show that I think is called Pitch Guy. I kid you not! Sounds like some sort of American Idol for infomercials.* Anyway, the other guy makes some comment to Billy Mays about shouting and Billy just gives him this look. Have you seen it?

*I'll refrain from getting on my soap box about there being anything intelligent on TV--I know that's an oxymoron. I'm not watching much more than the channels with documentaries these days as there doesn't seem to be much else on worth watching. :glare:

I have tears in my eyes reading this thread! Hilarious!

I have a problem with informercials. I can't stop myself from watching them. They're strangely fascinating to me. When the kids were babies and I'd get up late at night and settle in to feed them, I'd turn the TV on and there was always an infomercial playing. Sometimes I'd stay up even after the baby or babies in question went to sleep, because I wanted to see if they really could make french fries in that bag in the microwave, or what the heck they were going to use to get that lipstick out of the carpet. I have never needed to stick a lightbulb in a drawer, or steam clean my countertops, but it's good to know that if I did, there's a product out there for me.

I really don't buy the stuff that I see. I have that going for me! But I can't seem to resist the commercials themselves. That can't be good, right?

Don't buy that stupid frikkin' purse that's supposed to fit everything in this little itty bitty purse that you used to lug around in your big purse. I had it, and I hated it- I totally hated every second of it! (Yes, I'm mad-it sucked the big hairy one!) (I hope I can say that...oh, well I guess I'll find out if this post gets deleted!)Yes, it did actually FIT everything. But, try to take something out! Oh, NO, you might as well just wait till you get home, cause everything is going to come out at once. And the cell phone holder? It didn't hold my cell phone. Everytime I put the bag down, my cell phone would come tumbling out. At the check-out lines, the girls would look at me funny as my cell phone came crashing down on the registers, or tumbling over the counters as I tried to take out my money. The net bag where I kept my make-up in the purse ripped, and my make-up went tumbling out, as well.
Dont' buy this!!!

Thanks, Rose Key, that's helpful.

Last summer the kids and I were on a field trip that involved hiking. I didn't want to drag my behemoth bag all over the back country, so I left it in the car, buried under some fast food detritus. Just like I'd been doing for the last 20 years or so.

I came back from the hike to find my car window broken, and my purse gone! Jerks had already started using my credit cards when I called right away to report it. Grrrr!

Now I carry a small purse on a wrist strap, so I'm never tempted to leave it anywhere. It's a good plan, but I can't really get everything I need in there, so I was eyeing that purse I keep seeing on TV. Now I know I need to keep looking for the perfect purse.

The thieves also got my case of CDs, which cracks me up. I hadn't updated that particular case in months, so it was just Christmas music, mostly the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I just wish I could have been there to see the looks on their faces when they started flipping through their ill-gotten booty and found it was all MoTab. That would have been *almost* worth replacing the window and all my cards and ID for.

if you watch, when dumps the coke on the carpet, and picks it up, the coke has soaked through to the counter and is spreading out from under the piece of carpet. but when he goes to "sham" it up, the coke that was spreading was gone! wow... how did that happen? lol i think it's a hoax.. we didn't buy them on tv, but we bought the wax string for the kids? forget what they are called, but the kids like them, and they do stick on the wall with no mess, so i guess they work.

I doubt if they will work as well as advertised, since the commercial was a lie as well.. Yeah, I looked around at some reviews for the Shamwow, and the ones I found weren't particularly good ones. I had been excited about it, but after I read the reviews, not so much. Plus, it's not a cleaning cloth; it's for picking up liquid, and after I got through my initial jazzed moment of excitement, I realized no one in my family spills that much liquid on a regular basis, so even if they worked great, we'd never use them.

The Slap Chop, on the other hand, got good reviews and looks like it would really work, so I'm thinking about buying one.

Vince scares me a little bit, though. He's kind of thuggish-looking, and not in a cool Sharks and Jets way.

(say that 5 times fast)

THANKS for the info on these. Bought some and today the girls are not believing the new altitude they are experiencing.:biggrin2: AWESOME

I bought that NAD'S HAIR REMOVAL stuff. Worked great! Only problem is the big jar of stuff crystallized after only a few uses. Now I just buy the little tube at the local drug store for eyebrows, couldn't live without it or else I would have caterpillars instead of eyebrows. :eek2:

I love tomatoes and I've seen this thing on TV that will grow them upside down. They say that it will produce better tomatoes. I may try that out!

I'm going to get these. About 5 years ago, I did this myself, making them out of those plastic flower hangy things. It worked too! To actually have hangers designed for it should make it very nice.

I have thought of that too but wonder about night-stalking, midnight muffled marauders?:biggrin2:

Have you guys seen the Extenze commercial, the one about the stuff that enhances that certain part of a man's body?
I just had a funny thought, wonder if Billy Mays did that commercial instead of the weird Stepford/zombie looking people. Wouldn't that be hilarious!?

I just bought Smooth Away at my local discount store. I haven't shaved my legs in a very long time (the hair is very blonde and I hate cutting myself), but I was pretty impressed. It is not the miracle product it is made out to be, but it does work pretty darn good. Maybe I will give smooth legs a try for a while.

We got some. Only problem it that by the time you put the plants, dirt, and water in there, it's really heavy. Probably should hang it before you fill it up!

So that is where Vince gets the Sham-WOW name. Those Germs sure do make good stuff.

hopefully i'm thinking of the same sham everyone else is. the one where he spills coke on the carpet and lays the sham on it and it "picks up" all the soda? I doubt if they will work as well as advertised, since the commercial was a lie as well..

if you watch, when dumps the coke on the carpet, and picks it up, the coke has soaked through to the counter and is spreading out from under the piece of carpet. but when he goes to "sham" it up, the coke that was spreading was gone! wow... how did that happen? lol i think it's a hoax.. we didn't buy them on tv, but we bought the wax string for the kids? forget what they are called, but the kids like them, and they do stick on the wall with no mess, so i guess they work.

I bought a Pasta Boat last week and I have yet to make pasta in it that didn't come out all stuck together.
However it has proved it's self to be a primo A1 vegetable steamer.
It comes with a recipe book and I can highly recommend the egg scrambler.
I give it a B.... of course seeing as how I am not the best cook in the world, and that the boat doesn't rotate correctly in my tiny microwave it could be missing a higher grade from me through no fault of it's own.

Ah now don't go sellin' yourself short:smile2:!
I mean it's quite possible your friends have absolutely no sense of taste...okay, so quite possibly through no fault of their own at this point ...but really, that's besides the point, at this point, see my point:geek:?

 Very nice thread! I have never bought anything. My husband did get the George Foreman grill but he got it at Sears. We enjoyed it.

I'll have to remember to come to this thread when I start working on my shopping list! :smile2:

Peace.
