hi (i know this is a little lazy because i havent bothered to find out myself but) does anyone know how the dark tower comic plays into the story. is the comic book a contination after the book or does it take place throughout the series. also the same question for the black house and the talisman. i read the black house not to long ago and i noted it made references to both the dark tower series and the talisman. as i am a big fan of the dark tower story (im finishing the wastelands right now) i would like to know in what order these books should be read
a great big thanks to anyone that can help me out

Hi,
Welcome to the MB, and keep posting!
Right, the comics/graphic novels shouldn't be started at least until you've finished Wizard and Glass IMO, as the first, The Gunslinger Born, is an adaptation of W&G basically and would spoil the book for you. And the later arcs, The Long Road Home and Treachery could be read anytime after W&G, although you'll probably want to push on to Wolves of the Calla by then anyway.
Familiarity with The Stand will help with W&G, although it's by no means essential, and likewise reading Salem's Lot and perhaps Low Men in Yellow Coats from Hearts in Atlantis before Wolves also.
But the main advice is don't open the comics before finishing W&G.
Enjoy the rest of the most amazing journey in literature IMO.

The series is about Roland's early years, some of which you know from The Gunslinger, some of which is told in Wizard and Glass and some of which has never been told before.

In book iv Roland tells the story of his first love, his first ka-tet, and his transition from boy to man. The comic extends this story. The Talisman & Black House both take place in our world and one simler to Rolands, but it's not Rolands world. The books are two of his best, but they are not as conected to the Dark Tower as some would make you think. If you are looking for books that are Dark Tower related to reed before you get any father into the series here is a list. Some of there conections are small though.
Salem's Lot
The Stand
The Talisman
The Mist (a story in Skeleton Crew)

If I can expand on the question...
I've read the entire series (and have promised myself to reread them again as soon as I can), would reading the graphic novels enhance my love of the story (W&G was my fav!) or can they easily be skipped?
Thx:smile2:

Hi,
It depends on the individuals' attitude to graphic novels, but I would say 'Yes, very much indeed'.

Hi,
While we're at it, I would highly recommend getting your hands on Robin Furth's fine Concordance and also Bev Vincent's The Road to the Dark Tower, both of which will 'enhance your love of the story' very much IMO.

PS But don't open either until you've finished DT for the first time!

Hello Folks,
This is my intro and I would surely say "Thankee Sai" to anyone who could shed some light on The Dark Tower Graphic Novels. Was there more than one issue of The Gunslinger Born and The Long Road Home in Hardcover? I have heard there was a Silver? edition but can't find any hard evidence of it's existence. I have read the Tower waiting faithfully as each book was released and now enjoy collecting the various issues. Also the "Comic" series with assorted covers etc. I must admit that I also have a soft spot for "The Stand" Any help in this area would be muchly appreciated.

Well I'm pretty new at this adiction :P But I'm pretty amazed about The Dark Tower กกก I even fell in Love with Roland LOL, Anyway I think those comics are awesome, I haven't read yet, because here in Mexico It's pretty difficult to get the Dark Tower's book, so u can imagine how hard is get one graphic novel.
Eventought I saw some parts on web and those are awesome, and of course I'd like to read it, because those are about Roland
So I hope to get the book and at least one graphic novel กกก
C ya soon

Hi,
I've just re-read Cell myself and I was wondering exactly that.
The gibberish spouted by the phone crazies (p20, UK HB etc) is very reminiscent of that in Black House, and I was wondering if perhaps the Crimson King was responsible for The Pulse?

Cool, I will definitely check these out! I'm not huge into the graphic novel, but we do have a new course at the HS i work at that studies them...I wonder if DT would be a part of that? I could always borrow them and check them out! :grinning:

What is the connection with Storm of the Century to the Dark Tower? I read the Dark Tower but only saw the movie of Storm of the Century.

I`ve read all the books in the DT series and I have the first graphic novel. You definitely should read them. The imagery and symbolism is fantastic. It enhances W&G and to me adds depth and beauty to the legend of Roland. Not to mention that it can introduce this wonderful character to a whole new audience.
