Hey guys! I'm a new member here also, and I guess it's just right and good to introduce myself. I've like Stephen King's work for about 4 years now, and have shamefully been a lurker here for quite awhile as well. My first Stephen King book, the one that got me into it all, was IT, and even after reading a good deal of his other works, including the entirety of the Dark Tower series, IT still remains my favorite. I'm 19 years old, which is apparently a significant age in the Dark Tower series.
Unfortunately I have not read any of King's new works since Dreamcatcher, but that is only because I go through periods where I read very little and instead focus on other things.
I am rereading IT at the moment, which is what really convinced me to finally join the site. I'd love to have discussions about this book in particular, how it relates to other novels and stories, and theories on (well, you all know about that controversial graffiti message in Dreamcatcher. )
Of course, I won't limit myself, and would love to discuss any of the other books I've read, although I realize I have a lot of catching up to do.
Well, I guess I've gone on too long.
Thanks everyone, I really look forward to becoming a real member of the community!
I'm glad I read this being a newbie. The name attracted me. I can tell this is a grrrreat site. Only wish now I'd come up with a more creative user name, but I tend to forget them so... I choose what I have.
New to the Message Board, I find everything interesting. During my wandering around the messages, I am very unsure of where to post anything. I had a question earlier and got quick replies. Very encouraging--I have another question and I hope I am in the correct place.
Dark Tower question: I wonder about the origin of the gun "lesson" recited by the new gunslingers. I love the idea of it, but wonder if it also has another source I'm not aware of. Everything you learn about your favorite writing makes it more special.
I was astonished to have received as many welcomes as I did! People left posts for me when I couldn't even post back in my newbie state. Their welcomes spoke volumes to me about this website and the people who frequent it.
Now all I have to do is address the voice coming from the bathroom sink.
Name's Martin (well actually it's Marcin but Matin is the English equivalent). Right at the start I wan to apologize everyone that will have to deal with my way of writing, cause I'm from Poland and of course I'm not as professional at using English as most of you guys. So in advance, sorry for my mistakes and gramatical fails.
I'm 21 i live in Leszczyny, as I mentioned that's in Poland. I'm a student at the State Higher Vocational School at Raciborz. At my college I study English Philology (so dont go telling my teachers about my mistakes :P).
I hope to get into some nice discussions here, and get some help from you guys, with my praca licencjacka (that's a lower level of thesis, I don't think you have something like that in the States or UK or any other country, it's a paperwork that is written in order to pass the firs 3 years in college, and obtain the title 'licencjat'). The topic of my praca licencjacka is 'The Potrait of Insanity in Stephen King's 'The Shining' '...but whatever..that's for a different discussion...anyway Hi ya'll!
Hello - I'm new to posting but not new to the site. I have been on it every now and then to see what was happening. I am currently very involved in The Office and I am at question 114. Stuck on a particular question from The Stand but I'm sure I will work it out in time. It would be great to be involved in your community and share thoughts/ideas about King's books/movies/TV shows. I just finished Duma Key and although it was a bit of a slow start for me it ended up being a favorite. I loved the Tower series and picked up a new slang term that everyone hates me using - Mayhaps. I've been reading Stephen King's books since I was a young boy (now almost 50) and will never forget how The Stand scared me so much I had to sleep with the lights on for awhile! I hope to hear from some of you and find out which threads you enjoy and what got you interested in joining. My name's Greg.
My name's supposed to be the text equivalent of E Flat Diminished Ninth... Not spam, which only belongs on grocery isles and Monty Python skits. Greetings to all of you out there... not sure how many regulars there are at this site. Quite a few I'd imagine. See you here and abouts on the boards...
