"We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be,we shall fight on the beaches,we shall fight on the the landing grounds,we shall fight in the fields and in the streets..we shall fight in the hills,we shall never surreneder..never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few.." Winston Churchill

not to get too upset about it,but the assertion by another member on a closed thread that the second world war was started by someone other than germany, and japan, had my blood boiling..sorry my friend, but yes they did start it,and people like the incredibly strong and resilient Brits and my father, who served in bomber much like the one pictured here, stopped it..revisionist history is annoying at best, insulting and rude to those who were affected by and know the truth..

I'd always heard of Winston Churchill but didn't really listen. I saw a documentary about that war and the horrors. They interviewed one man that's around 100 now and he talked about how he lost his mum. His tears hurt me and I cried right along with him as he spoke. I will say that watching that documentary gave me a great dose of history that I'd failed to take notice of and it made me feel badly to be so blind. I started researching Churchill and I really think he was pretty great.

    Thank you for this quote.

You're welcome Madam..really,I find the military channel on cable is a font of information, documentary wise..much is tough to see,but if we understand what has gone before,we will not repeat those mistakes,at least that is the hope..I used to think that it is ancient history,(WW2) but I have my father's flight jacket, and I realize that no,those times are really not so distant, and we must remember those who sacrificed to allow us our freedoms..not meaning to go on,just missing my dad tonight I suppose..

Well stated . . .I don't have a problem with you missing your dad and expressing such. Sadly though . . .it seems as if man will never cease wars. I can't recall a moment in history when there wasn't a war going on. Of all of the creations on Earth we're the only ones that will start a war against our fellowman.

I don't get that sh!t. I remember that one member a few years ago stated that it's profitable.

Writing has laws of perspective, of light and shade just as painting does, or music. If you are born knowing them, fine. If not, learn them. Then rearrange the rules to suit yourself. - Truman Capote

You are so lucky to have your Dad's jacket. I expect my Dad was wearing his when he was shot down over the Sea of Japan.
