I have taught The Shining in the past in my Gothic Literature and Film class here at Fisk University in Nashville, and plan to do so again in Spring 2014. I'm really loving Dr. Sleep and have found numerous literary allusions in the text, including Melville's Moby Dick, Thomas Harris' The Silence of the Lambs, Poe, T.S. Eliot, and several of King's other novels. What is your favorite literary allusion in the new novel? I have two: the Eliot reference ("Hurry up, please, it's time" from The Waste Land) and Rose the Hat as Ahab (wonderful cross reference to The Old Testament's Ahab and Jezebel's defiance of Elijah). Anyway, I'm marking allusions as I go, as I may want to write a paper on it sooner or later, so if you have found something discussion-worthy, I'd appreciate your comments.
