Whilst reading IT (the best book ever. It was so good it had its own cameo appearance in my favorite movie, Donnie Darko) I was EXTREMELY surprised at some of the material in that book. Now don't get me wrong. I totally understand the visual and image King had with these things but how far is TOO far when it comes to certain things? I mean how much blood and gore can there be in a book before it just gets ridiculous? How much sex and forbidden pleasure before it gets boring? What about excessive dark imagery? I am personally trying to explore the more distant and I guess you could say "twilight zone" side of novels. I have stumbled upon some that have some pretty questionable and uncomfortable sounding titles yet they still intrigue me. (Bury the children in the yard, This book does not exist, Hi I'm a social disease, and even house of leaves) I would like to hear some of your guy's opinions on this subject. Is there a certain degree to which you say "This is just too much." or maybe it's "This is so gory (or violent), that it sucks. Another reason being that I am writing this post is because I had just recently watched Rob Zombie's Lords of salem and seeing as he had hammered the same concept into the viewer's mind so much that it was boring made me wonder what others opinions would be on these kinds of subjects.
