There have been suggestions like this in the past and at that time the general feeling was that Stephen wasn't too interested in having his stories developed in this way.

Not quite what you were describing, I know--but we do have two interactive games for folks to play here.
They are: The Office and Discordia.
The Office is an app designed for fans to peruse a set of rooms based on Stephen's real-world business office. (Though, correct me if I'm wrong please Ms. Mod--I think the staff may have actually moved on to a new location since this was developed? But the art and collectibles probably largely remain the same.)
Discordia is an online interactive game based on the Dark Tower series. "Discordia chronicles The Tet Corporation's inter-dimensional efforts to save the 'multiverse' from destruction at the hands of Arina Yokova."
Take a look when you have some time, they're both a lot of fun.
