Heh. The only thing you succeeded at, once again, is calling attention to your poor writing ("The plan for "Under the Dome" is to make it last even longer than the 1000 plus page book will take to read. 'It's very...). Nice use of quotation marks . And never mind your lack of facts: Showtime is part of CBS, ya goof.
Damn I hate this position, but all of you are technically correct.
The real skinny (and a reliable little crow told me this) is that it was up in the air as to whether it would be a mini-series or a recurring series, based on the ratings. In fact, they have just finished filming all of the first season fairly recently because of this. There was one set of scripts for if it didn't do the target on ratings that would make it a close ended series and one set that would be the "season finale" arc if the ratings did well.
So, OP, you're correct, the initial intention was to make it a mini-series, with the HOPE it would become a recurring series (for the suits). I don't think it's a wonder that I also was under the impression it was a mini-series as it was portrayed that way initially, or those that KNEW the book THOUGHT it could ONLY be such and thus saw that press alone... me being guilty of that. I also shared the OP's disappointment when I heard it was a recurring. The reason? Simple... It meant they would have to substantially alter the book to make it a recurring, or have episodes that cover 2 pages in the book.
As far as the "I can write and you can't" fight, I would say that typos don't really indicate an inability to write. After all, even SK needs an editor, no?
And the rest of you... Are you SK's publicists now? I wouldn't hire any of you!! Especially GIANT and PatriciaA. PITH, I would hire to clean toilets and maybe bake a pie now and then (not on the same day, though.)
^^This. All of it.
Very insightful stuff, as if maybe from Mr King or one of his own family members (Joe, is that you?).
In the end, as a passionate fan of the book, I just don't want this to go the route of THE X-FILES or LOST: piling plot question on top of plot question, making it up as they go along, all for nothing more than to push the needle on the ratings meter, without having satisfying answers. It's got to be about character not plot.
But hey, I hope I'm proven wrong. Hope it's the best series of all-time.
Showtime is not part of CBS. Showtime is owned by CBS. Not the same thing.
Also, when a quotation is contained within a quotation, you use the single mark as opposed to the double. In England, it's reversed.
You've been fed, troll; sorry if the food is not to your liking. I can think of several suggestions for other things you can eat, though...
Pay attention to Hossenpepper, as he just confirmed what I've been saying all along: it WAS initially intended to be a mini-series.
But hey, I can see you're like that kid at the grocery store, throwing himself on the floor when his mom won't buy him the candy bar he wants, wailing till he gets his way. So if you want to go on believing your theory, s'ok. I'll let you have it (but not until you finish your dinner).
