for years now I have been talking about S.K. LEAVING AN Heir apparent .someone to continue his story lines after hes dead. His sons or Robin Furth or someone.
he has said his is not going to do that.
"My kids will exert my wishes, and there wonít be anybody to come in and pick things up the way some people have picked up the James Bond books or the Bourne Identity books. I donít want to see that happen to any of my books. Eventually, the copyrights will run out, and Iíll be in the public domain, but Iíll be long dead by then. People probably wonít even remember. [Laughs.]
SO BE IT. I can understand this. It is his right.
I can only hope though...he ties up some loose ends ...soon.
He has 'tied up' Father Callahan and now Danny. I hope he does
the same with Charlie Mcgee and a few others. When he enters the clearing
at the end of the path, I hope he stops first, and drops a potato-sack full of manuscripts
at his feet ,
"My kids will exert my wishes......." It is his wish that no one continue. Though I do agree Joe could easily pick up and unfinished work of his dad's.
Who is to say that he has wrapped up Father Callahan or Danny? When his muse speaks- he writes. I'm just happy with all the story ideas that flow from his mind. No matter what, Stephen King's works will live on. There will be new Constant Readers and the SK Universe will open to them. Remember always: Ka is a wheel.
Let's not start mourning the man before he's gone, he's a pretty spry 65 for crying out loud! I am just happy we co-existed in the same time frame, I feel we are very lucky to have been alive at the same time. Sometimes I wonder what it was like for the people who were alive during Shakespeare's heyday, or Charles Dickens. Perhaps years from now people will be wondering what it was like to be alive back when Stephen King was writing.
Let's not start mourning the man before he's gone, he's a pretty spry 65 for crying out loud!
Hear Hear FUSH!
If it's his wish for his son's or wife to NOT finish his work, so be it. Definitely wouldn't want Robin Furth to take the reins. No offense meant R.F.! Also, who are we to say he better tie up loose ends? Yes, we're his Constant Readers and supported him his entire career but that's up to him if he wants to write more about other characters, etc. I'll just be happy with whatever he wants to publish from here on out.
I just finished reading Joe Hill's N0S4A2 and can say with confidence that when "the day that we shall never speak" of comes, Joe Hill can honor his father's wishes by not stepping into his footsteps, but instead, continue to give us bits and pieces of King's world within his own stories...
...I 100% agree with Unca Steve...let his work pass into the clearing with him....I for one would not care for an imitator, even one from his own family...his wife and kids-all an unbelievably talented lot-have their own styles, and don't need to adapt "Dad's" work, at least not for me...I will mourn his loss when that day comes-but I'll still have his millions of words to comfort me...Tiny, for the love of the Man-Jesus, stop it with the gloom & doom topics wouldja?...
