Some other locations to consider, for heat reasons only: there've been some locales in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin in SK books.
Would Pittsburgh be an option?
Or Trempeleau, WI? Mr. King spent some time in De Pere as a young'un. Peter Straub grew up in Trempeleau and it's the inspiration for French Landing in Black House. It's mid-way between Eau Claire and La Crosse, right on the Minnesota state line, with what looks like some beautiful state parks.
I could go for that (that last one, that is, as in Trempeleau WI)
Whoot whoot!!! I'll second that Neesy!!! Peter Straub grew up in Wisconsin and the town of French Landing (in the book) is based on Trempealeau. It is a beautiful location and there are many things there associated with Black House. You can find "Chase Street", "Sumner Street", King Street (instead of "Queen Street") and the famous "Sand Bar." (Been to the bar, had a drink and toasted Sai King) Also, "Centralia" is named after the small town of Centerville, Wisconsin, located at the intersection of Hwy 93 and Hwy 35. This would be an awesome location for a Kon, whether next year or sometime in the future!
I don't know if it makes any difference, but I'm pretty sure we can get a group discount at the Stanley. Maybe have a masquerade, unmask at midnight.
Maybe pot luck dinner and campfire on Friday night, masquerade on Saturday. Tours and junk during the day.
