I attended the Stephen King interview in Hartford last night. The Bushnell was packed. It was great to see so many enthusiastic readers in one place. Stephen did a fine job of responding to the questions Colin asked, although some of the questions seemed out of sync for the type of interview. I would have liked to see it more focused on Stephen's experience with and approach to writing, especially how he dealt with challenges like writer's block, lack of focus, etc. I did like the exchanges about how his writing has changed over time, with more emphasis on characters, their lives and loves. I especially liked the parallels drawn between him and Mark Twain as each represents a popular writer of their time. Over time, no one could doubt that Twain has truly become a "literary" figure. I firmly believe that King will eventually achieve the same stature for his body of works.
