Here's the deal as I see it; Producing power in nuclear reactors has become quite safe... for us . But the BIG problem is what do we do with the spent fuel rods and other nuclear waste. Those aforementioned fuel rods will be dangerous for 1000,000 years ! For all practical purposes, forever. It's not for us I'm concerned , ( don't get me wrong , I feel for the poor people who have to deal with this stuff here and now ) it's for our far distant decendants .
Will they curse our memory for having saddled them with the responsibility of being custodians to our nuclear castoffs? Will the containment vessels we design fail in some unknowable future time and render the planet uninhabitable ? Will some future peoples unwittingly unleash radioactive Hell because they sought to uncover what secrets we have hidden in these deep repositories ? Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon never had to deal with this kinda trouble , far worse then any fictional Pharohs curse.
Sorry this post aint a lot a laughs, I've been complemented on my sense of humour, right now however ,not so much.... Turn out the lights when you leave the room , conservation aint a bad thing , EVER!
