I use our libraries more than ever, especially since they became networked. The part in Joyland about having to pay fees to get intra-library loans made me smile because nowadays (at least in our library network) I am so spoiled, I can get just about any kind of book (or CD, audiobook, or DVD, etc.) from a local library and they all can be sent from other libraries in the network for NO fee.
My children love going to the library and at any given time we have a dozen or more titles checked out.
I still regularly buy books, new and used... guess I'm just a book person!
I love the library. Kansas City has what surely must be one of the best library systems around, and it's very easy for me to get nearly any title with just a few days' notice. We can also check out audiobooks and ebooks online. I also buy new and used books, hardbound and for my Kindle.
Even if I could afford every book I ever wanted, I'd still use the library, because they'll go away if they're not needed.
Sadly, no. I don't go to my local library anymore. The park it's next to and the building itself been overrun with homeless, crime and scary type people. It's sad too, such a beautiful new facility they have built and such a treasure trove of books
Love going to the library- but don't make it there often enough! I do utilize their online services for audiobooks and ebooks all the time (currently have 3 items checked out with holds on about 3 more...). I grew up less than a block from the library- lived there during the summers!
