You are not alone
Are there any verses in the bible that tell us that we aren't alone in this life? I sometimes struggle with loneliness and I got scared earlier because my mom has heart problems and she had chest pains earlier to where we had to take her to the doctor. All I have here is my family and 2 friends (still in Missouri) and I needed to know if there were any verses to help me get through the tough patches in life. Also, does anyone know of a group I can meet with that are Christians my age? I mean I am not the kind of Christian that's "Bible thumping and hootin and hoolerin" kind. I am down to earth and looking for some people my age to hang with and befriend that also share the same beliefs as me. I don't mind other people and their beliefs at all. I love people for them not their beliefs. Just think it would be easier to talk to people my age that have things in common such as.
Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
It's been too three decades since I lived in the Knoxville area, so It's hard to recommend anything; but it sounds like you are looking for one of the newer no denominational churches. Usually these are full of younger adults that dress casually and do not get hung up at comparing themself to their neighbor. Shoot an email to the chamber of commerce or UT's department on religion and ask them where you could find a new (because they will be less clickish) non denominational church full of young adults. You may have to try 3 or 4 times before finding what you are seeking. But if you are not willing to try at least that much, then you really were not serious about it to begin with.
Not a verse from the Bible, Dave...but I have always found this comforting.
The Footprints Prayer
One night I had a dream...
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and
Across the sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand;
One belonged to me, and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of my life flashed before us,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that many times along the path of my life,
There was only one set of footprints. I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest
and saddest times in my life
This really bothered me, and I questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
You would walk with me all the way;
But I have noticed that during the
most troublesome times in my life,
There is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why in times when I
needed you the most, you should leave me. The Lord replied, "My precious, precious
child. I love you, and I would never,
never leave you during your times of
trial and suffering.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.
You'd think there'd be groups on all the various campuses around Knoxville. Maybe go out walking places like that...that allowed? Maybe check out the hallways, the bulletin boards, places where folk post notices...Group Meeting! Don't they start up their summer schedule soon? Could be new notices appear at that time. The various groups meet often on Sunday, various locations...check them out...see what shakes out there. Odds are someone in those groups notice a new face. Maybe they got a bulletin board there, too...notices and such. Or maybe they make announcements at some point...maybe tuck a piece of paper & a pencil in your pocket you can take notes. Local paper here runs a full page weekly w/notices of different group meetings. Or maybe you're out and about and you notice a volleyball game going on...you stop...watch...maybe one side has 10, the other side has eleven and you let the 10 know you're available.
