King appearing in his own book did take a bit of getting used to, but I guess for those of us truly entrenched in the series, we were in it to the end...to the Tower.

Are you aware that Hearts in Atlantis is not a novel per se, but actually several longer, interconnected stories? This bothered me a little, as I loved the first story ("Low Men in Yellow Coats"), which made it difficult to switch gears and more on to the next one. If this might be the case for you as well, you might want to read Bag of Bones ​first.

That's how it happened for me, too. Was disappointed in Hearts In Atlantis (probably more my doing than the book's) and found Bag Of Bones to be more enjoyable.
