Maimi-Dade has really strict Breed Specific Legislation, specifically a ban on pit bulls. Any dog that looks like a pit bull will be killed, regardless of the dog's actual temperament. The only way they won't be killed is if the animal control will release them to a rescue located out of county.
This story makes my blood boil. I don't understand - and don't want to understand - anyone who can treat animals this way. I think that tying a piece of meat to their necks and putting them someplace with bears (preferably grizzlies) is a stellar idea.
Laws that would force animals to be put down because of their breed also infuriate me. The problem isn't with pit bulls (nor with any other breed); rather, it is with some of the people that choose these breeds because of the breed reputation. Pit bulls can be really sweet, gentle dogs - and ANY dog can be taught to be vicious.
I was once told by the insurance company that carries my homeowner's policy that they would have to put an exclusion into the policy for one of my dogs, because he was part German Shepherd. He was also the sweetest, most laid-back dog ever, and a big baby (though if anyone ever tried to hurt me, they would not have thought so!)
