Okay, I just heard on the news about this recent trend in going "green". Apparently, some mothers have chosen not to use diapers for the babies. They say that they just read the babies facial expressions and gestures that the baby has to go. The mother then takes the baby and holds it over the toilet etc. I am all for going "green"...but I can just see this causing all kinds of problems. One is not always close to the bathroom when baby has to go. Also, I am not sure I would know when the baby has to go.
God almighty. As if there isn't enough already out there to confuse a new parent. Personally, I wish I'd been aware of this little number (that is about to be made into a feature film)... http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct...G_P_04IwK2peHQ
And use cotton nappies. That's what I used in a vague attempt at green parenting. But personally, FAR too much confusing information out there for the terrified first time parent. Well meaning though it might be...

Look at the long-term bennies...you got the fertilizer-bennie, definitely a green thing although in this case, I imagine only the crack-growing weeds will benefit...plus, when the chillen grow up, imagine the possibilities. Frank, Johnny just dropped a loaf on the front lawn again, call his parents and give them what for. And "landmines" takes on a whole other meaning.
I once knew a woman who told me this very thing thirty years ago! She was middle-aged and from a very poor region of Scotland. She married an American sailor and had lived in this country for many years by the time I met her. Anyway, when my daughter was born she told me that people where she came from in Scotland didn't use diapers-- they just learned to read the babies' facial expressions. Her own children were in their early twenties at the time and she said that's what she also did with them. I asked her a lot of questions. I was amazed at the idea but not amazed enough to try it with my own kids.
To each their own. I've seen tv news clips of ppl in India(I think it was) who carried a plastic cereal bowl and bare bottomed babies-they used the bowl. I used cloth diapers on my lil guys and it didn't tramatize them in the least.
