What non-King do you recommend?

I've read a lot of King lately, just finished 11/22/63...would like to perhaps explore a few
different authors before I tackle another King book later on.

I am interested in the fantasy, adventure, mystery, action, sci-fi... all that stuff.

I'm looking for some REALLY good book or even a series.

What can you recommend?

from Stephen R Donaldson...one of many that came after Tolkien's story...King mentions the series...I believe in that essay that accompanies each volume of Roland's story & the story fits the criteria you have listed.

Blunt already mentioned Chrichton. I've read anything I could find by him. I started out with Prey.

There's also Richard Bachman. He's got some good books.
