    Default The Ultimate Spoiler?

As someone who has lived in Dallas for over 30 years, I loved this book. It really captured the feeling of the city and
the culture of Texas, and was an amazing love story to boot.

I do, however, have a major problem with the choice to include on the inside cover, "JFK ESCAPES ASSASSINATION,
FIRST LADY ALSO OK", an insert of a newspaper article from the Dallas Times Herald.

Is this not one of the biggest spoilers in the history of literature?

As you whom have read the book already know, this exact headline comes true and appears in the book later.

Why reveal what is going to happen on the inside cover of a novel? Why put a spoiler in the front of the book?

    Does anyone agree?

    Yours truly,
    Jake Epping

I don't believe anything until that no-spin yapper on Fox has weighed in on the issue. Here I stand. I can do no other.
Have the hardcover and the dust-jacket does say that...on the back...but on the front, it says: JFK Slain in Dallas LBJ Takes Oath
One of those Dewey Beats Truman moments.

One does not realize this is a spoiler until well into the book. Just because the headline of the newspaper is on the cover does not necessarily mean it will happen within the book. Many book covers give "false impressions". The premiss was could one change events in the past. Thus, the headline could have been a "tease" or even a "mis direct" to the reader. One had to continue reading to see the "effect" of said headline.

I didn't think about it being a spoiler at all. The basic "what if" synopsis of the book was well publicised before publication.
Like Walt's book, my book also has the JFK Slain article on the front, and the JFK Escapes article on the back.

I agree. I don't think it's a secret that the point of the book was to go back and save JFK. I think it gave a very good indication of what could happen in the book without even having to read it. And Walter is correct - it says the exact opposite on the front.

    And also...

things don't turn out so well when the assassination is avoided. What with the Earth falling apart and all...

It may be a "what-if" or a teaser, but the appearance of such a cover greatly increases the chance of this event actually happening in the book.

I think a better cover would have just been a picture of the motorcade, with no headline....

Does anyone know if Stephen King approved of this cover, or does he not have control of that?

I don't have an answer to this right now sorry, as Ms. Mod is away on vacation until May 1st.
