If they make you pay for them to publish you, DON'T DO IT.
I did that for years before FINALLY figuring out they never inTEND to pay me (or they would have before 5 years passed), and then his daughter-in-law, whose work I ALSO like, said don't do it.
She said they should be paying YOU, not the other way around. Which pleased me just fine b/c Barnes & Noble sells a book of my poems that I never authorized them to have, not in any knowing way. The company that sold it to them - no doubt in a deal where the company ALSO made money - never paid me one penny. I paid them and then they turned around and sold it to B&N and made a disgusting profit for their disgusting SELVES with it.
I never told his daughter-in-law that, but it's the reason I was so ready to believe her when she told me they should be paying ME, not the other way around.
