Though I understand perfectly what you're saying here, I think most Christians might take offence to our Father in Heaven being referred to as a "magical man in the sky."

I'm not going to continue this conversation because I've had it way too many times and I don't think there's much point but I will say I apologize if you found my comment offensive. I find many, many things Christians say as offensive but it's their right to feel however they want about whatever they want. And say whatever they want. It's in that vein that I made my comment for the sake of brevity and humor and it's too personal to you then I do apologize. I meant no offense.

I wasn't terribly offended by it, but know that there are many that are. For me, it was more of a jarring moment to see that come out of nowhere. No harm done.

I too am terribly displeased with the rampant propensity of other Christians to neglect God's second greatest commandment: To love one another. I'm saddened by the idea that Christians have treated you and others with such disrespect and I don't think that kind of attitude has a place in Christianity.

No really, not bein' a smartazzz here, well you know, as much as my DNA will allow, but seriously, why would that be offensive?
Back when I was a member of a certain sect of the Christian club (I once hung out some in seminaries, if that's any clue), I certainly wouldn't have, and I'm being completely honest when I say I can't think of anyone that really would have, you know, outside of some hard line Latin Mass lovin' horse & buggy timey ol' grumpy geezers (I loved Latin Masses by the way...the old kind with the padres back to the mooches, way tres' cool sometimes), I truly can't say I can.
Hmmm, but ya know I have me some cuzzin's are of a flavor that don't much cotton to flabbergastin' over that baby Jesus's Mama & puttin' hope on a Pope stuff like the Holy Romans do, no they don't, not at all, and I'm thinkin' I might see your point, justa little, 'cause back when I spent quality time with those particularly exuberant worshipers of faith, kin o' mine, I do remember more mindin' my idolatry P & Q's...ya know sometimes folks would just look at me all sad like, and they'd just shake their heads at all the worshippy get togethers, the kind with all the good eats, secure in the all knowing of all things one can't ever know knowledge, that this little "big city" papist (Cincinnati *SNORT!*), what talked like a Yankee and needed some proper church manners (you evidently are not to stare buggy eyed at your first speaker of the various gobbledyg, uhh, tongues), was a'goin' straight to hell, and they sure didn't mind much tellin' anyone that cared to listen, yours truly included, the fact of it neither, you know, if'n I didn't get myself "good and right with Jesus".
Magical Man In The Sky, hmm, ya know there's a whole lot worse things could be said to another, or bushel baskets of 'em for that matter, and by a waayyyy long shot, and so I rather like to think/believe/have faith that ('cause see, I don't know, can't possibly in fact), that if there is indeed such a higher being, and I ain't sayin' there is or ain't, notta clue, then twould probably rather dig bein' handled with the cool & groovy title, "Magic Man In The Sky"...well yeah okay, unless of course it was a chick.

And why am I even having this discussion. I don't even believe in the magical man in the sky.

Men wrote, then translated the bible. God didn't write it himself. Therefor it is not God's actual word...at least not all of it...more like guidelines, really. I believe in God and his son, but I don't take the bible literally, at least not a lot of it. And I think that what's we are supposed to do. We are not meant to be puppets, but are meant to figure things out for ourselves. Freewill and all that.

I say this with the utmost respect: you've come to an awfully bizarre place in which to renew your relationship with a higher spiritual being.
Wouldn't a series of exchanges between you and a member of the clergy be more of a focused and fruitful exercise?
I'm kinda left scratching my head here. I don't know about you, but I don't buy a car where I shop for groceries. Make sense?
