I often do this, and I have no idea why. My husband sometimes does it too, but with him, it's because lettuce is a bit hard on his digestion, so things go better if he doesn't try it on an empty stomach.
I don't like chips (french fries to you guys, think they're the most boring thing ever). Give me a jacket potato any day of the week, AND i also eat the skins.
I do not understand why people love fries. They are so often mealy, uninspiring, and just BLAH. (I love sweet potato fries, though.)
The one exception: there is a new-ish chain in the US called Five Guys. They have THE BEST fries I've ever eaten in my life. So, so good. The burgers are awesome too, but it's the fries that surprised me.
I don't have many quirks in terms of food I like. But I am an insanely fast eater. I don't know where or when I started eating like I'm in some sort of gluttony contest, but I do eat very fast. I always clean my plate no matter how stuff is on it, too. I always have a book with me when I'm in a restaurant that way I can do something while I wait for those around me to finish their food.
Oh, I can tell you where you picked up that habit, I bet. You're pretty young, right? School lunches. It's insane how fast some kids eat, but I get that they're just used to cramming it in before the bell rings. That's why you clean your plate, too. You don't have time to register that you're full. Might want to keep that in mind for when your metabolism starts slowing a bit.
I, on the other hand, am one of the slowest eaters ever. Certainly I'm the slowest I know. Even after all these years of knowing me, my husband will occasionally say, "You're still eating?" And even though I almost always serve myself, and you would think I have a pretty good idea of how hungry I am, most of the time I don't clean my plate.
A few quirks:
I like black pepper on my fries.
I don't just eat potato skins; I also eat salmon skin.
I will take a good fish taco any day of the week over a burger. Even Five Guys, In-'n-Out, Fatburger, or homemade burgers.
If I am going to eat plain potato chips-I like to dip them in ketchup. I would really prefer to eat sweet potato fries, mucho more flavor. I like to eat the skins on baked potato-They have nutrition value. I dislike anything like onion on my hamburgers.
When I was a kiddo I put butter on my bun. My dad did so and I learned that from him. But stopped
with that later on. I put mustard in pea soup and yes I love to put cream in my oatmeal, I know that sounds weird.
I also mix coke and sprite together sometimes.
I eat everything on my plate at the same time, but I make sure I finish the things I like the least first so my last bites are of my favorite thing.
I eat anything sandwich like in a circle.
I do that as well. Who would want to finish with their least favorite thing? If I have gummies, or whatever random snack mix, I always eat my least favorite flavors/ things in the mix first.
I forgot to mention that the hubby doesn't like sauces of any kind and eats his fries/burgers/everything plain. Fries are probably his favorite thing in the world. I like fries, but I am just as happy with a baked or mashed potato.
I also eat crazy fast. My dad was in the military, and he always ate fast. I learned it from him. I have tried to slow down, but it is really hard to kick 20+ years of bad habit.
