I thought that both mottoes were in use, but after looking at several bills, I only see "In God We Trust".

I like the idea of E Pluribus Unum......because that is what we are
I have a big ol' copper 1864 two cent piece that has the distinct distinction of bein' the first of many many US monies to be robustly raptureized, "In God We Trust".

Mine's a lot more beat up...well I am kinda hard on it, I mean I'm always slingin' 'round my two cents worth.

I looked at a nickel, a dime and a penny. Both mottos are on those. My two cents. well, I guess it would be my 16 cents.

Very good points to ponder here. I am not American, so I can`t comment on your motto. IMO, I don`t think it`s separation of church and state so much as people feeling that their way of life and core beliefs are being attacked. I remember when I was younger the court case started by that woman who was an atheist about removing prayer from school. I think her name was O`Hare. That`s what I remember, anyway.

It's good that you clarified it. Because otherwise I would have been all, "Oh, so ... it's 'What has Haunted done with Pat, apparently?'"

But nobody told people they were not allowed to pray, just that school sponsored prayer was out. And from a practical standpoint, there are a lot of different religions in the US and I don't think anyone wants to spend half of the school day accommodating all of them.

True. I don't disagree that`s true today. What I was trying to say is in my memory, the removal of prayer from schools was the start of change.

Yes the O' Hare lady was quite a lightning rod.
